Ouch, that Gillette black handled razor is HARSH. Either something is wrong with the adjustment mechanism or its just a harsh razor. I had it set on 1 and it bit like a crazed kitten.

While I was getting a good shave from it, the scent from the GFT Almond seemed almost non-existent once I lathered it. No longer! It exploded today and was an absolute joy.

I have also decided to give the GFT Spanish Leather another go. My initial hesitation was largely due to what I perceived to be a lackluster "leather" note; however, I am really starting to appreciate it more. The "leather" is definitely there, just wrapped in a group of warm scents that make it a little more complex.

The Real Shaving Co. stuff is pretty good, seems to be the same formulation as used by the three Ts with their own fragrances which are pretty toned down. The Soothing Balm is more of a moisturiser than a ASB but does leave the skin feeling nicely soft.

Good shave today. The Brazilian was super smooth. I would rate the sharpness a notch lower than the Derby or Israeli. No problems with going with or across the grain, but a little pulling against. Although, this was only my first shave with it and I reserve the right to change my mind. It would make a great blade for a newbie. Grade: B+

Are you having problems with the NB Facewash too? I didn't like it much for the first few days but then it sort of grew on me. Now however, I think that calling it a "gentle" facewash is some sort of sick private joke. Whilst the performance is good, the claim that it wont strip your face is laughable. Also, the facewash caused me to have a bad reaction to one of my most favoured creams, DR Harris Almond; not being able to use that is too high a price to pay for any facial cleanser.

The soap smells decent enough to like it. I have only used it 2-3 times sofar so im not qualified yet to say thumbs up or down. price wise this soap is unbeatable just like the Arko ,I believe $2,50 for 75 gram. I had quite some razor burn this time, but to blame the soap? could be the fresh Featherblade or a combination of both. I like it enough sofar that I will keep it in rotation Ill do a more indepth review later when I have more time experimenting with boar versus badger to lather up this soap. I can however advice you blind to get the Wilkinson cake 125gram that one works like a charm.

for your info This soap (vergulde hand) hasnt been changed over the last 400 years and yes it has some reputation so if you can get it def. worth a try.

The SPEICK shave cream is also very good, SIR Irish Moos,WELEDA,GOLDDACHS,HASLINGER(Austria), Florena or you choose one of the non higherpricing things like CERRUS, BALEA which are very nice, with good moisturization and features thet have the dearer creams/soaps too.
IMHO, the German products aren't so bad, though much wetshavers here, swear on the 3T's and other higher pricing articles.

Belgian products? Sorry, but I don't really know what is available there:blushing: :blushing:

The slant shaved a bit closer today, still not as close as I would have expected and I had to go against the grain, but it was better. The main reason for this improvement was the use of the shave soap, the lather was less cushioning and more lubricious. Unfortunately I didn't adjust my technique, and given the previous days disappointments, I really pressed down. No nicks or cuts but there was a lot of burn. All in all, not a bad morning, and I am sure the Mama Bears soaps and I are going to get along quite well.

My first time with the QED soap. Couldn't get it to lather worth a darn - soaked the top in hot water, got nice soapy swirls going with the Vulfix and then moved to the bowl but it was just weak and foamy. Back to the soap to reload, back to bowl, etc... Not much improvement after a few back and forths. Too boot, my face burned with this soap and it is still a little raw even post several hours with ASB. Possibly my first allergic reaction to a soap... The shave was a close one, just not a quality experience.

The Men-U brush was my first brush, and since getting several proper badger brushes it has remained unused; however I thought I would try it on the shave soap this morning and oh boy does it lather brilliantly. I'm still not overly keen on this brush, it has too little flex for my liking, and I find the scrubbing it provides to be overly abrasive, but for whipping up lather with a soap this really is top notch.
As for the Dragon's Blood soap, it has a wonderful smell. A really heavy and exotic perfume but it burned like you wouldn't believe! The same wonderful lubricity as the other Mama Bear soap I used yesterday and I got a close shave but there is something in it that doesn't agree with me. Still this is omly day one, so I shall persevere, the wonderful aroma almost compensates for the intense burning so it is definitely worth hanging on.

Silver aristocrat looks great if it shaves well is another.. im not fully BBS which I usually am with Fatboy Gillette. the head is very different then all my other Gillette. you can almost race this razor over the face as it has a very little gap so the feather hardly can do damage. its a decent shave being it was a fast shave and the pso finished the job for a whole pass. it better get better or else its going on sale again im not keeping razors because they look so nice..they have to deliver BBS each one of them.

yeah, I agree with you, Proraso's doggone good stuff, I also shave with it sometimes. I feel terrible :frown: that the Arko cream didn't work out for you though. I never did try the citrus-scented one, but the other ones I have as well as the soap stick are for me the bomb! Another thing I dig about Proraso is it's not that expensive. :smile: :smile:
