How many of you use pre-shave oil? I've found it to be almost useless

I Make A Mixture Of 1/2 Olive Oil(any Type) And 1/2 Castor Oil And Am Getting The Best Shave Ever With No Irritation At All. I Hop In The Shower, Wash My Hair And Face, Apply The Mixture And Leave It On While I Finish Washing The Rest Of Me. Leave The Oil On Your Face And Brush On Your Shave Cream And Go For It. Smooth As Glass!!!

I'm currently using AOS oil, and I'll try putting it on before I shower and see if it works any better.

I was using the AOS oil for awhile but stopped using it (for no real reason) and haven't missed it much.

I have been using Em's Pre-shave Oil. I think it helps although I have never applied it in the shower. I might try mixing my own using the above mentioned recipe.

Has anyone tried the Feather Herbal Pre-shave Conditionner?

I briefly played around with glycerine about a year ago, but found it to be counterproductive. Same with PSO. I got a sample of the T&H with an order, tried it once, and deemed it worthless.

I tried AOS pre shave oil and King of Shaves pre shave oil. Not really sure it is doing anything.

I have recently tried Noxema and Glycerine applied (5-15 minutes) before I shower. I then shower and rinse it off. I then apply Proraso Pre/Post massage it in. I then lather up. It seems to work very well.:a45:

I think I'm going to give Trumper's skin food a try

I have found that preshave oil (brand does not seem to make a difference) works well if you have a heavy beard and are using a mach III. With a DE it does not seem to make a difference (heavy beard or not). I have found that with the shave oil Mach III combo I can easily get 7 to 9 good shaves from one cartridge.

Can I ask the same question about the Proraso Crema Pre and Dopo Barba? (um... I think I just did.)

Some days I use it, some days I don't and I'm not sure if it helps or not.

I also use Em's pre-shave oil and it helps. First, I may use a bit more than is suggested. The real key IMO is that I rub it into the really sensitive area, which is for me the moustache. I rub it in for 30-60 sec, especially against the grain. It has helped.

I used to think so, but I had a remarkable experience this past week. Please see my post here (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=31178)as to efficacy of shaving oil. I learned that properly applied and used, it does make a difference in giving a smoother, more comfortable and closer shave.

I only use pre shave oil when I've been lazy for a few days and not shaved. A couple of drops with a wet hand will help soften my stubble, and make it easier for the razor to glide on my face. I've purchased a lot of different because I thought that's what you needed for a perfect shave. You don't. For me though it helps a little when have some considerable growth.

This looks very much like a personal preference/type of beard issue.

I've tried a couple of different brands and found, that for my face, it doesn't contribute much, if anything, toward a better shave,

But, like I suggest, YMMV.

I find it goms up the brush, makes the razor handle slippery, and doesn't add anything to the shave. I prefer a water-soluble pre-shave to soften the beard and add a bit of lubrication. For me, Feather preshave fits the bill.
