i finally gave in and decided to order the much talked about Martin De Candre. On their website i noticed they had another shave soap called "le cannele"
I was wondering if any of you have heard of this soap or have it. If so what are your thoughts on it. I went ahead and ordered the 170g and the "le cannele"also
can't wait to get my hands on them.
Here's a picture from their website of "le cannele"

Mdc is a fantastic soap. Le Cannelé is the same scented soap as the 170g jar but it comes in a different container.
The bowl is named so because the shape resembles a canelé (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canel%C3%A9).

lol darn. for some reason i thought that cannele ment something along the lines of cinammon thinking it was a completely different soap...thats why i went ahead and ordered it. Oh well nothing wrong with having a couple of them.

So is the MdC "Le Beurrier" and the MdC "Le Domino" the same thing as well in different packaging?

also...how does MdC compare to other high end soaps/creams..
I have Pens BB cream, Acqua Di Parma, SMN, CF and some DR Harris Soaps....out of all of them AdP is my favorite...is MdC up there with those or better? i know a lot of it comes down to preference...but i'm sure if MdC is anything like those i'll be very pleased.

Lavender and rosemary is what I smell. I think the scent is fantastic, although some others disagree with that.

I don't get mint, but noses are different.
My wife made soap for a few years with EO's and really got good at it. When I unwrapped the MdC (and they ship for the shavepocalypse) she was at least 8 feet away from me. I opened up the jar and about a second later she looked up from her book and said one word: Lavender.

I don't get the noxema smell at all. It is very pleasant and herbal to me.

Lavender, my wife loved it until she realized how expensive it is. Good thing I only got a sample.

In a French gentleman's bath and grooming room the shave soap was left out on a side board or tray. The soap maker simple offers these traditional soap 'holders' so the modern day gentleman can leave his soap out on display. The cool MdC jar/pot would be considered a vessel to be hidden in a drawer.
As said earlier, you can nerver have too much MdC.

I believe the MdC has been around for about 100 more years than Noxema, so I think you've got that the wrong way around ;)

Lavender and rosemary. It is probably the best smelling soap I have ever used.....never mind the unbelievable performance!

Both have camphor as an ingredient (for MdC, rosemary contains camphor as fragrance, and for Noxzema, camphor has medicinal value akin to menthol).

Martin de Candre was started in 1974, Noxema in 1914...

MdC and Noxema? Noxema was a part of my dad's shaving ritual. Something I'd forgotten till this thread. What I'll never forget is the smell of Noxema. That is an incredibly strong sense memory. MdC has never caused me to think of Noxema.
But again, noses are different.

Perhaps the modern 'company", but the marseille method of making soap goes way, way back.

This is getting off topic, but they don't make their shaving soap using the Marseille Method, at least not in any traditional sense.

Why does it matter which one came first? People were talking about the scent of MdC and I said it smells a lot like Noxzema. Same as if someone was asking about the scent of TOBS Avocado, I'd tell them it smells like honeydew (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/304076-New-TOBS-Tin?p=4348608#post4348608).
MdC is the one product I have to pick up and sniff everytime I go into my bathroom. It's gorgeous.
I got mine in the L'Ami glassware. It gave me an excuse to have it out on display and easily to hand for my serruptitious sniffing.
It also fits into my evil master plan for bathroom domination. My aim is to have more of my shaving gear on display than my wifes soaps/perfumes. I have a long way to go but I am chipping away :001_smile

+ 1 I'm always smelling mine. Bought some in Paris on a recent holiday. I also use their Camomille Vegtable Shaving Oil as a pre shave oil. Can definitely recommend it!

To me the camphorous scent is so overwhelming I can hardly pick out any lavender.
Smells medicinal and unpleasant, mostly. Don't care for the scent at all. In one sense it reminds me of dissecting cadavers as a first-year medical student; it's almost got a formaldehyde-like overtone to it. Yuck.

Subjective. Not only on whether you prefer lavender but whether or not you prefer their lavender (not all examples of any scent are identical). Try it or get a sample to answer your question for yourself. Whether other like it or not and whether you like it or not are entirely different things. Not everyone finds it pleasant and no one can tell you what you'll think of it.

Also subjective. MDC's among my favorites with DRH and AOS. Others don't care for it. Again, you need to try it for yourself to answer your question definitively.
