OK B&B...I know it's tough, but I'm asking you to put aside any scent considerations and give a tip of your hat to your top performing creams. Which cream gives you the most cushion, slickness, and protection to give you the closest and irritation free shave on a regular basis?

Acca Kappa 1869 and Omega 46001... I've tried those 2 plus TOBS, Truefitt and Hill, Cella, Razorock, Pre de provence soap and VDH lux and deluxe soaps and those 2 give me the best/closest shaves with a very slick lather, good cushion and leave my face feeling supple. AK is the best of the 2 but omega is not too far behind, performance wise. I cant believe how that cream doesnt get a lot of love around here while TOBS is so overrated, again all of this is subjective but TOBS is the worse cream I've tried so far, it smells good tho.

I like Simpsons cream. Really formidable lather from this cream. Quite new I think. It's unscented, so scent is not a consideration for me with this.

For me, it's Proraso - whether it's the old green or new red.

QCS makes a cream that is top shelf in my books.

I Coloniali cream. This stuff is amazing. I do not want to jinx anything, but I am always irritation free. It is a very moisturizing cream, and is slick. It provides just the right amount of cushion for straight shaving.

Since it hasn't been mentioned, GFT Coconut. Its got a lighter, sweeter coconut smell and this cream has honestly afforded me my best shaves to date.

If I could only choose one shaving cream it have to be Al's. The lather created by Al's is dense and slick. I have received nothing but stellar shaves when Al's has been in the mix.

QCS, AK and eShave are a few others that I enjoy. In the bargain realm, Proraso, Arko, Speick and Wars are priced well below their performance levels.

After trying many creams, these are head and shoulders above the rest in terms of performance:

Nancy Boy Signature - great thick, protective lather and the price is right.
Trumpers Coconut - this stuff really lives up to the hype. It might just be my top pick.
Castle Forbes Lavender or Lime - I might give a slight edge to the lavender, but both are fantastic.

I've had QCS on the radar for a bit, but haven't gotten around to it. I think I'll wait til next summer to order some Vostok. From what I've read lately, I think I need to add Acca Kappa 1869 to the list.

For me,without doubt, the top 4 overall performing creams have been: 1)CF Lime 2)GFT Coconut 3)DR Harris Arlington 4) T+H Ultimate Comfort (And I have to throw in Acqua di Parma.

I have to say that Musgo Real original consistently gives me my best shaves.

I would have to go with CF Lavender. It has given me the best shave yet, and left my face feeling soft. Some others seem to dry my skin out a touch.

As far as *tube* creams go I have only tried a few, but several of those are at least semi-classics. I'd rate them as follows:

Bigelow/Proraso, #1 for quality of shave and ease of use, scent is nothing special but inoffensive and crisp.

Musgo Real, #2 performance, also easy to get great lather with, scent is very interesting and I like it, but probably not for everyone.

Tabac, #3 in performance and with noticeably less cushion than the previous two, still a decent shave though, I like the scent of this one as well, but certainly not for everyone.

Speick, Tied for #3 in performance with Tabac, my favorite scent of any cream in a tube, picks up a little extra cushion when lathered in concert with the Speick shave stick, but still not as good a shave as Proraso.

Provence Sante green tea, dead last by a wide margin....this stuff is awful, lame lather, poor cushion and a downright uncomfortable shave, the scent isn't bad, but I can't use it to shave with...glad I only bought a sample size portion!

If you want to add "cream" soaps that come in a tub, then the Omega would take over the #2 position for performance though it's not my favorite fragrance. Also RazoRock Cocoa would be in the same range with the Tabac/Speick performance grouping, it's super slick but doesn't cushion as well as the best, I also get much more almond in the scent than cocoa.

I don't consider soft soaps to be in the cream category (if you can't easily scoop a dollop of it out of the tub on a fingertip then it's a soap not a cream IMO), so several of my favorites are not included in this list.

Which cream gives you the most cushion, slickness, and protection to give you the closest and irritation free shave on a regular basis?

Cyril R Salter. I get better shaves with Salter than CF, Taylor, Trumper, Harris, AoS and Simpsons new one. Some of Salter's scents I don't like, but they all perform great.

The Castle Forbes line is the top performer for me along with GFT coconut and Violet. I also think that the T&H creams that I have used are top performers. I also think that the TOBS line of creams are great performers at a good price.

Doug

Castle Forbes Lavender is my #1, closely followed by CF Lime. AK 1869 in the tub is very nice and inexpensive. T&H makes a very high quality cream, with ultimate comfort as my first choice. For the price I don't think you can go wrong with Razorock.

Tabac. Densest cream I've tried. Most protective and moisturizing cream I've tried. I rank Musgo and Erasmic creams highly, too. Proraso is fantastic. Castle Forbes has gotten plenty of mention here deservedly. AOS, GFT, and the T&H offerings are very effective and enjoyable, but I don't think their lathers are quite as protective as the others, despite great slickness.

Spieck does a good job.
Arko cream ranks up there as well

really pretty much any cream. I combine a smear of some cream on my face then lather with my arko puck. I can get Derby cream for $1.65 a tube.
