I've just got my hands on a 1956 Red Tip. I'm interested in hearing about your favorite blades to pair up with the aggressive nature of the red tip. Do you prefer a mild or super sharp blade?
Thanks,
KG

I like to pair mine with Personna Lab or Med Preps. It's my favorite safety bar combo!

I always take any new razor on a spin with Astra SP. that blade has never let me down in any razor and I know what to expect. After a few days with the Astra I can pretty much decide where to go from that point.

I have a '56 Red Tip and love it. It may be my favorire Super Speed. I pair it quite successfully with Astra SP and Personna Labs. Fine shaves!

Everyone will give you a different answer. But the TRUE correct answer is this...
What works for others might not work for you. No two people have the same skin/hair. You're going to have to try some blades out yourself and see what works best for YOU.
Regardless of price, sharpness or opinion, nobody can tell you what will work best with your body.

I only have two shaves on my new red tip, but the feather is doing a nice job of providing a smooth shave for me....

I am currently using a feather in my red tip but it is not my favorite combination. I prefer either a Gillette 7 O'clock black or blue. The yellows work nicely as well.

I use Persona Labs in mine and it's a wonderfully smooth shave.

Aside from some specific exceptions like Derby, Merkur, Walmart Wilkies, you can use anything in a Red Tip. I normally use a Red IP when I am not sure what to expect a razor to do. Astras SP, Sharks SC are good choices. Also, I would hardly consider the Red Tip an aggressive razor, although you are problably comparing it to, e.g., a flare tip or some other superspeed.

Red tip isnt aggressive. It is aggressive in comparison to a regular SS, but overall, not

I appreciate all the suggestions, and am interested to hear more. Yes, my current favorite is a 40s style superspeed and a late 40s aristocrat. Just tried the red tip out with my normal Crystal blade and got a good shave, but I still need to work on my technique a little. I like the heft of the red tip. I seem to favor heavier razors, not sure why.

I like sharp smooth blades in my Red Tip - Personna Med, Iridium Super, 7 O'Clock Black

Mike P has it right of course.
But as you are asking, I like a Bolzano in my Red Tip. First pass can be a bit rough, but after that it's smooth sailing.
Love the Red Tip!

I agree with this, especially in comparison to modern aggressive razors like the Slant and Futur. Or just about any open comb.
It's a great shave though. My favorite Gillette.

I would think Astra SP's, red pack IP's, or Crystals would be good choices.

Any of the 7 o'clock blades really shine for me in the Red Tip!

You are going to have to find the blade that you like, but I love Meds and Labs in mine. Not to mention, that my 56 Red Tip is my daily driver.
