Out of the blue I get an email from SWMBO saying "what do you think of this"

Holey Moley... I wonder what she has in mind

There are a lot of fake antiques out there.

She's up to something.

NEVER refurbish and antique. It's worth about $200 now - maybe.

Yup.

It's a trap.

A friend got a new electric guitar.
The guitar cost about $1200

It did not cost him $1200... it cost him $1200 plus a Baby Grand Piano!

For about $500 you can have a reproduction made...

For about $100 if you drew plans and took them to you local high school woodshop.

(yes, I think something is up too)

Tell her it's nice, but way to pricey.

At $5,000 that is one of the bargain-basement items on that site ... a Chippendale grandfather clocks is listed at $95K.

I'm not sure what prompted her to single this item out ... but I'd rather put that same money into razors and soaps and brushes, and get a simple, but classy looking stand from Ikea.

Back away slowly . . .

She buys you a saving stand - and you have to use it. While she commandeers all the bathroom space for her stuff. And you're stuck with the stand.

Not this stand of course. Just the idea of a stand.

Yours will be more of a small corner table with a drawer . . for all your shaving stuff! (cue evil music and laughter here)

Or not . . .

Oh man you're in deep now. I think she might want to remodel the house or something. Either that or she just want's to see how much you've lost it! :out: She might be trying to gauge the level of your obsession and is planning an intervention.
:lol::lol::lol:

Look at the dimensions, it is tiny. You couldn't fit 1/3 of your stuff on/in it.

True true....

Her question was:
"what do you think of this"
What she was thinking was:
"what do you think of something similar to this"

This:

Is similar to this:

"what do you think of this?"

There is no right answer. None. Nada. You lose either way.

Stand up, shut down the PC, and walk slowly away...

Well, I see the trust level of women here. You guys must have been burned pretty bad.

Turtle strikes me as a guy that buys what he wants and can afford the higher end of this hobby. Maybe $5000 is chump change in his home.

Brother, its not a matter of trust. I trust my wife a 100%. ;)

You do realize the name of the product contains the word Chippendale right?

The laws of female thinking (we should be so lucky that such a thing existed) dictate that she wants to go to Vegas and that this is a perfectly direct hint for you taking her there. She'll even take you to a strip club first so that she can justify dragging you to a Male Review afterwards.
Yup, it's a trap!

Or she really likes it... :)

It is now nothing but an old hunk of wood. Re-finishing the antique destroyed any value it had.

Maybe if you remove the mirror and attach it to the ceiling? :biggrin1:

I think that you should tell her it would look great in the master bedroom. Then see how she responds.

The question is what does she want in return for that awesome gizmo. Still cool though.
