I was wondering if I should leave the soap in the scuttle whilst I'm not using it. Would this dry the soap out, or affect the performance in any way?
I bought a refill soap from John Lewis for a traditional shaving scuttle I got off ebay, does anyone know who makes the soaps for John Lewis? The soaps have a nice (to me) fragrance and it was surprising easy to lather up, bearing in mind this was my first ever time of creating a lather from a soap.

I've only been DE shaving for a few weeks and already have the following in my collection:

Merkur Futrur razor
Blades: Merkur, Wilkinson sword, Gillette Swedes (from John Lewis), Tesco, isreali blades (no name).

Men u bristle brush
Kent bk2 brush
Omega 'stripey' brush

wade shaving scuttle
John Lewis refill soap

Wilkinson sword shaving soap (blue bowl)
Palmolive cream
Palmolive soap stick
Ingram shave cream
Boots cool cologne shave cream
Men u shave creme
shaving-shack #7 shave cream
TOBS savender shave cream
TOBS sandalwood shave cream
Vulfix sandalwood shave cream
Trumpers Lime shaving cream
Pollena lider shave cream
Wars shave cream

Avon 'today, tomorrow, always' after shave conditioner.
Botts freshwood aftershave balm

1902 Eau de cologne tradition by vetiver?

something tells me that this is going to be an expensive interest/hobby...

If you are using the soap daily, then leave it there. If not, then you might want to cover it so that the scent doesn't diminish as quickly.

A piece of cling film should suffice?

Cling film would be a fiddly business to deal with regularly. See if you find a plastic lid from a margarine tub or similar that'll fit.
