Hello Everyone on the Swap Box List,
I have sent PMs on 3 Sep to Paul (razor_boy) on each forum, and both PMs show "unread". I also called Paul on his cellphone twice and had to leave a voicemail twice. No callback as of this morning.
I believe there is a life circumstance perhaps beyond Paul's control which has precluded him to deal with the box. I have also noticed he has not been on either forum since he posted that he got the box on 30 Aug.
I visited with Paul for about an hour when I dropped off the box. He is a fine, enthusiastic gent with a passion for wetshaving like the rest of us.
In my last message to Paul, I told him I could drop by his house and pick up the box if he needed me to. Waiting for a reply.
I am sure Paul will do what's right; we just don't know all the facts.
Stay tuned. And thank you all for your patience.
Cheers,
Richard

Ok I lied.......Tigert and I are going to meet up tommorow or Sat.
While I painfully wait for the box to reach Central Virginia, I went to the local Salvation Army store looking for a few new (to me) shave mugs for shave soaps, I saw some small bottles of Glycerine. I realize that Glycerine is one of the favored ingredients in a shaving products but what would a bottle of 100% Glycerine do for anyone?
They are only .25 cents each and I was thinking of buying a bunch and putting them in the swap box.
Any thoughts?

Art,
I usually just add a little drizzle of liquid glycerin to witch hazel, a squirt of aloe gel, and three drops of tea tree EO to an atomizer and use it as a toner. There are days in the summer when I can use only this to moisturize, but I normally just apply a little bit of moisturizer when my face is drenched with the toner. It helps to spread it out evenly with out using too much.
Respectfully,
Schubert
Thanks for the info Schubert.
By the way, who has the box now? I am going to buy up all the glycerine they have and send it to the current or next person so everyone after them will have a chance to get one or two.

The swap box arrived in sunny Northern California today.
But it is no longer the swap box. From this point forth, I move that we call it "THE BEAST".
"THE BEAST" only made a brief stay here, it is now headed out Pauldog in MN. I know a bunch of people are waiting for this to come around, so I wanted to move it along as fast as possible (literally here less than an hour)
"THE BEAST" is glad that everything is packaged up in little baggies, as one of the shave samples (from what I could tell, a Vulfix sandalwood) decided to burst. I couldnt bring myself to reach in there and clean the little baggie up, but the other samples in that pack as well as the other contents of "THE BEAST" fared well.
"THE BEAST" is now over FIFTEEN POUNDS. It cost a pretty penny (or 2,400 of them) to ship priority mail from CA to MN. Ouch. I might suggest from this point forward moving on to UPS or FedEx. Might be cheaper. I bit the bullet to keep this thing going.. there are still 17 people to go!
Enjoy!

Hello All,
Excuse my absence. Extended business trip past two weeks in Florida.
Hugo in Appleton, Wisconsin, currently has the box. He received it from Pauldog in St Paul, Minnesota, on Friday, 14 October.
Next recipient on the list is Rik in Portage, Wisconsin, not too far from Appleton.
Hugo has graciously volunteered to rearrange the contents by category. When I shipped the box out on 29 August, I bagged like items. But things get mixed as people sort through the little treasures. So Hugo said he will tidy up for us.
We are one third of the way down the list. Fourteen participants left.
Have fun and keep us posted on the box!
Cheers,
Richard

I do have the box. Sorry for the lack of communication. I received the box last week. This thing is massive, and very well organized. Sorry for the delay, do to my hectic work schedule and having my three kids with me nights I haven't had a chance to send it on it's way to the next person. I should be sending it tomorrow or first thing Saturday, I promise.

Hello Art,
Sean, down in Houston, is preparing a skin care product swap box. He might be persuaded to start that box on its journey, but have it head east and progress in a counterclockwise direction. So sometime along the trip, the two boxes will cross paths.

Great idea! You gave me a great idea. How about this, different people start a different box, maybe once a month a NEW box goes out, started by different members, and different categories, ie....shave creams/soaps, colognes, facial/skin care, etc.....
We take the current list and who ever starts it, sends it to the next person on the list so there might be 4 or 5 boxes rotating thru? They would be much smaller than the big one currently circulating, but they would "get around" much quicker and more often.
I'm willing to start one if everyone thinks it a good idea...

Hello Art and Fellow Swap Box Participants,
Forum members are encouraged to start their own swap box journeys anytime. Having different themes for different swap boxes is good, similar to what Sean in Houston has planned with his skin care box.
My first swap box on SMF was a themed box - cologne & aftershave samples only. More of a proof-of-concept swap box really to see how forum memberships related to the whole swap box idea (it works very well in the flyfishing community, but I digress).
I believe it is important to have a swap-meister for each swap box to keep track of the participant list, the box's journey and to provide progress updates to participants.
We have found that shipment by UPS or FEDEX ground or 3 day Saver are the most economical shipment methods so far.
Some themes: skin care, shampoos, shave creams & soaps, bath soaps & gels, straight razor items, DE razor items, colognes, aftershaves, balms, hair tonics & lotions, body lotions, brushes, shave bowls & mugs, etc.
Cheers y'all,
Richard

Folks,
The box was shipped today via USPS. Thanks to Richard for his help determining how the box should be shipped. I tried to ship via FedEx on Wednesday but they wanted $121 to ship....got the total down to $21 today with USPS but it may take two weeks to arrive in Canada.
Just wanted to let you all know that the box is back on the trail.

Hello Patrick,
Thanks for the update. YS in Toronto is next on list to get the "monster". We are halfway down the list now. The box has been on its journey since 29 August. Because of the long journey, I anticipate the "monster" will be bringing in the new year with us! Not a problem. It's all for fun! No real rush.
I wonder what the next swap box will have as contents and when it will depart.

Roughrider, I am afraid the box already made its way to California some time back. After its brief visit in Canada, it is now working its way through the northeast, then south and back across to Texas.
There will be another box departing after the first of the year. I think Sean in Houston will be launching a skin care swap box, so stay tuned for the sign-up list for that one.

That's me on the left and Rob on right. A very nice guy, we had a great talk about work and family and or course, shaving. I hope we get to keep in touch.
It was a pleasure meeting you Rob, we have to get together to play racquetball sometime.

Rob, I hope you find something you like in the treasure chest.
Everyone stay tuned!

Hello All,
Just got word from Sam in Memphis that the box has arrived today. Thanks, Rich!
Hope you find something you like in the box. The contents surely look different from when it departed back on 29 August 2005:001_smile .
Beerman in SC is next, then caseys101 in Houston and then back to me. A six month journey is coming to an end :tongue_sm .
Cheers,
Richard

Richard,
I know the participants have to be glad that you are providing an update in advance. I mean after all, it takes time to arrange a bank loan to afford the shipping!

Hello Beerman,
Could you give the participants an update on the monster? I am sure caseys101 in Houston is "chomping at the bit" as they say in Texas!
Cheers,
Richard

Hello All,
Beerman has told me he will ship the box on Friday. He had some family issues which took precedence. No problem, understandable. Family always comes first, pardner! The box has been on the road for more than six months, so what's a few extra days!
Mike, I hope you found something you could use in the box and thank you for the extra items.
Caseys101, stay tuned.
Cheers,
Richard

Hello All,
caseys101 in Houston now has the swap box. When he finishes exploring it, he will ship to me here in Plano and the journey will come to an end. Seven months :w00t: . Wow.
I will post pix of it and the contents when it arrives.
Stay tuned.
