So a few weeks ago I found this amazingly minty Hoffritz case for $5, complete with both blade holders, but NO razor. It seriously looks like the person who bought it immediately removed the razor and then placed the case in a linen drawer and never touched it again.

So I've been on the lookout for a Hoffritz slant to give a proper home to. Tried the BST with no luck. Most of them on eBay are sky high I found too.

Eventually found this one on eBay that looked pretty crunky AND the seller clearly is nearsighted or has no idea what the word "focus" means. I took a chance and won it for $62. Not too bad for a vintage Hoffritz with no cracks I think.

Here's the ebay listing and pics: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/320903331898

So she arrived today and I took some time to clean her and polish her and let her swim in Barbicide for a while afterwards. I am extremely pleased with the outcome! She cleaned up beautifully. This is my first slant - I couldn't wait to shave with her and I had two day's growth. I had heard scary things about slants so for good measure I used a 3rd shave Astra that I figured might dull the beast enough for a first time.

Holy mother of God what a smooth and fantastic shaver this is. Instantly became my favorite razor! Are all slants like this? Are the newer Merkur slants roughly the same shavers? I ask because I like this so much it's definitely going to be my go-to razor and I think it might be wise to spare this old girl the wear and tear. It's that good! Easily one of my best shaves of all time. Here she is properly photographed before, after and in her proper home :)

Now one other thing I tried tonight that had FANTASTIC results. I have this dollar store metal bowl that I like and they are dirt cheap. I find the smooth surface, like many shaving bowls without any contours to be so-so at getting a good lather speedily.

I bought this two-sided soap suction cup thingy - also at the dollar store and suctioned it to the bottom of the bowl (so suction cups are on both sides of this mat thingy)

AMAZING lathering action - more lather than I knew what to do with very very fast. A neat trick if you are so inclined. For $1 what have you got to lose? you can also cut these things to fit the bottom of your bowl's contours! Neato!

Cheers all!

Go to the BST now and buy one or both of the slants. You will NOT be disappointed in the Merkur.

Oh no. No. no . no. no. no.

This whole damn thing has taken a hold of me! I bought a wood lathe at an auction tonight for chrissakes! Have visions of turning my own handles and stuff.

RAD ends here and now. I am done spending until at least July on anything shaving related. :)

Damnit! I have wood working tools I need to buy now... sigh.

Anyone want to buy a nice hand turned brush handle? :w00t:

No I figure this ol' Hoffritz can take it hacking at my face for a few months at least.

I can always replate the old girl too if need be I suppose ;)

No more razors. I'm out.

Beautiful find and i am quite certain that she can endure a few more years of shaving and will most likely outlast many more faces! Enjoy the shave and replating her would be a great addition!
