View Full Version : Truefitt & Hill creams
Thought I'd add my thoughts here after I recently got hold of a few samples of T&H's 1805 shaving cream, the ultimate comfort cream & equivalent balm.
I tried the 1805 cream yesterday just for the sake of it. Stropped my razor, prepared my face with lots of hot water, hot towel and some Coral Skin Food as I tend to do. I put the whole of the sample cream on my brush and it lathered up very well. I think I must have falling asleep, standing and whilst lathering the cream on my face!! It was really that great!!
I have yet to try the ultimate comfort cream and balm, so I'll save that for Sunday's shave and we'll see. Basically, if all T&H's products are this good, I might buy one of their creams in a tube as a 'standby' cream (well, what excuse would you guys use?) - maybe even their balm if it is any good.
Do you guys have any views on the T&H creams? Do you recommend any of their other creams and if so which ones and why?

I've have the 1805 cream and have tried the Ultimate Comfort. Both good but I prefer the 1805 - it's a different formulation. If the 1805 is any indication of how the other creams are, you can't go wrong!

I have the 1805 and the Trafalgar. They are my favorite creams. Their lathering, cushioning and slickness properties are excellent, and because they are cologne-scented, the scents last a long time after your shave.

Have you tried the ultimate comfort balm? I also have that too and plan on using that with the cream of the same.
You are right about 1805 - it felt like it was 'something else' above the rest. I can't wait to try the rest to see how they are. May the best cream win!

Thanks, Jim. You aren't wrong on that - my shaving brush smells of 1805 until today. I can't stop sniffing it. And now I sound weird.

For cologne scented creams I have Taylor's St. James, T&H 1805, and AOS Sandalwood. The 1805 and Sandalwood are both very protective, and slick. Based on scent 1805 would wins hands down. I love it.
I had a sampler of T&H Ultimate Comfort that consisted of the oil, balm, and cream. I liked them all except for the oil. The balm wasn't greasy at all and felt pretty good going on. I've considered getting a tube of it.

The W.I.L. is probably neck and neck with 1805 as my favorite T&H cream. I also have Trafalgar and Grafton in rotation. It has been a while though since I have been on a soap kick lately.
As for an excuse, if you like it, pick up a tub. You mention standby, do you have 1 cream in rotation now? Most members have a rotation, anywhere from a couple up to some pretty high numbers.

I tried the WIL and think it's a great scent, but not for food, not people. I'm obviously in the minority on this though. :001_huh:

It's one of the best!!!!!
A tube of that and a tube of the AoS Sandalwood make for the perfect travel kit!

Try the UC.... you will really like the cushioning you get. They cream has got lavender EO in it so it really nice on the skin.
Honnestly when i got the cream i really didnt like it, the smell didnt do it for me. But after several shaves i have yet to get one bad shave. Its a stellar performer.

I tried the Ultimate Comfort sample pack this week and was very happy with it. Wish I hadn't just emptied the sample packet on the 2nd shave w/ the cream because I probably could have gotten a third or fourth shave out of the 5mL sample. Also like the aftershave balm, but I'm not sure how much the preshave oil added to things.

1805 was one of, if not the first cream I used when I started my wetshaving foray and I've had no complaints since. Love the scent.
Ultimate Comfort is nice also. Very subtle scent, but i'd prefer 1805 between the two.
Either way, you can't go wrong with either.

Well I tried the Ultimate Comfort one yesterday and I wasn't very excited about it. Also the equivalent in balm didn't seem to work for me, although I did use the pack on just the one shave.
The 1805 was quite nice though. I have a tube of that now  .
Hmm... tried the new tube of 1805 cream that I picked up last week. Wow, what a shave - and the scent....!! I think that's what a heavenly shave should be defined as.

I have tried a bunch of different creams. Samples from Floris, Taylors, Nancy boy, JF, etc. I ALWAYS come back to T&H Trafalgar. It just doesn't get any better for me. So smooth and slick and what an aroma. I just love the stuff.

I think T&H Trafalgar is my next one to try... but I have a full pack of the 1805 to enjoy first!!

I'm still trying to decide whether or not to buy a Penhaligon scent this Christmas or a Truefitt scent. I am going to definitely purchase a shaving cream, though.
Can't decide between Trafalgar or Ultimate Comfort, which I have tried and love.
Hmm. I'm so indecisive.

the 1805 has lavender in it which i would stay away from if you wanna stay a man. Its known to cause estrogenic side effects. a boy once got gynecomastia (gyno) from using lavender shampoo because it penetrated through the skin and into the bloodstream. I dont think trafalgar has it. i didnt check the others though.

The study which you are quoting is under dispute partly for having been poorly done. Even IF the study is correct it would only apply to pubescent boys, not men who shave.

I used AOS lavender shave cream tonight and was suddenly struck with the urge to watch "Waiting to Exhale" while drinking a Cosmopolitan! I now know why... Curse you, lavender!
You will not be disappointed in the Penhaligons scents. I have the Blenheim Bouquet cream and it is nothing short of spectacular!

Has anyone used Taylor's and T&H? Is the premium price of T&H over Taylor's worth it?

I have both but prefer T&H hands down. Price isn't that big of a factor for me so a few dollars extra for a product that I like the best is no big deal.

Tough to say...I have plenty of both and enjoy them both. I couldn't say if T&H's lather is better than ToOBS. They do have different scents so I do enjoy the ones I have. It just shows what a great deal the ToOBS offerings are.

I have the trafalgar cream and absolutely love the scent. Amazing scent, in fact. The performance, however, was not everything I had hoped. I just find the razor tends to skip when I use this cream. I don't know...maybe I'm not using enough cream? I haven't tried it in a while...maybe face lathering will make a difference (I think I overwhipped it before).
For me, Taylor's performs just as well and is much cheaper. But that trafalgar scent....mmmmmmmmmmmmm.
did I mention I love the scent of this?

Take a look at the ingredient list of the 3T's. Virtually identical all made by Creightons in the UK. I find that the performance is virtually identical as well, with the largest difference being the scent I like Trumper's Coconut and will always pay up for it, but I also like most of Taylor's scents. If you can be happy with Taylors, then save yourself some money, but I would advice trying some of the others once in awhile because one will likely really appeal to you.

The T & H Sandalwood is one of my favourite creams. I think the scent is just awesome
I can see where this is going... I am currently using the 1805 cream and finding it hard to put that one down. My guess is I'll probably end up going through all of them one by one!!
