Hello all, I've been lurking here for quite some time. Recently I've entered myself into two PIFs. But the real news is that I was talking to my grandfather on the phone today and asked if he had any double edged razors or anything like that. It was a bit of a stretch, but considering my grandparents are almost horders, it was worth a try. He asked my grandmother, and sure enough she had all of her dad's (my great grandfathers whom I never met) shaving items stored in a box. She found the box and in it contained 4 double edged razors and 1 straight razor and a super badger brush. I'm going home this weekend and I can't wait to pick it up. Hopefully all of the items are still in good condition. I'll let y'all know. I think it will be very cool to shave with my great grandfathers razors.

Welcome & Congrats on the heirloom razors!
My dear 83-yo mother is the "disposal unit" ... like WALLE.244043
So there are very few things left from grands & almost nothing from great-grands ... count yourself lucky on the razors & shaving stuff!

the razors lying on the table, left to right...
1) Single Edge (AKA SE) 1912 style made by Star. I have one made by GEM and it's a fantastic razor. You can buy SE blades for it at Walgreens, CVS...about 50 cents each sold in packages of 10. You can clean that up using a bathroom cleaner like Scrubbing Bubbles and a toothbrush. I like and have used the Lysol brand bathroom cleaner...spray it on and leave for 10 minutes, it kills all germs. Scrubbing with a tooth brush will remove all of the gunk easliy
2)not sure about it
3) Gillette Travel Tech...uses Double Edge blades, found everywhere. Nice mild razor
4) GEM Clog Pruf Micromatic. I have two of em...nice shavers...uses SE blades
5) not sure of
(straight razor?) Looks like a hair shaper to me...something one might use to trim a beard with (just guessing)
The SE's are great razors...most on this forum that shave with safeties prefer DE razors but there is also a strong following of single edge safety razor users. some guys (claim) they have a hard time shaving with SE razors. Unlike a DE, you push an SE a bit and DE razors are pull type (my own over simplification). Speaking strictly for myself, I can get a better shave using an SE razor than I can with a DE, unles I'm shaving with a slant DE then it will shave me as clean as any SE I own
Yeah so if I were you I'd start cleaning the razors, get some blades for them and start learning how to shave with them. The razors I mentioned are all proven work horses you could use day in and day out. Have fun and happy shaving with them=:-)
Best,
Jake
