Lately I've been getting gunk building up on my blades and I have to wash it up or I have an ugly looking blade the next day. It's mostly hairs stuck on there that will dry and harden if I don't wash it off after shaving, and usually I need to unscrew the head a little to get it out. I forget to do this sometimes and annoyingly get a blade full of hair stuck to it the next day. Is this normal or is my lather too thick?

wipe the gunk off and pat it dry on towel

If you are rinsing your blade frequently during your shave there should be not buildup. I found that I got gunky buildup when my lather was too thick (i.e. not enough water).

Your lather is too thick.
Ding ding ding. Winner.
Happens to me a lot when I use shave sticks. For some reason, with sticks I almost always end up with lather that is too thick.

Thanks for the help! Adding water fixed it. Good way to find out your lather is too thick too.
