This may have been posted elsewhere on B&B, but today I discovered that one of our own - Serge Dasara AKA Sparafucile (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/243721-Sparafucile-s-Hall-of-Fame-Entry?p=3489439)- passed away on April 21st from complications related to heart surgery. Serge and I had been corresponding fairly often over the last couple months and, while clearly a private man, he shared that he was having open heart surgery at the beginning of April. Serge was a frequent visitor to B&B's The Nib, and told me he was going to treat himself to a Nakaya pen after he had been discharged. (He said he had been eyeing these pens for years, but could never justify the expense.) I sent him a couple bottles of Pilot Iroshuzuki inks at the rehab facility - something else he would not splurge on - so he would have something nice to use upon discharge, yet he never got the opportunity.
After Serge's surgery he was admitted to a rehab facility where he was expected to recuperate for approximately a month. After a couple weeks at the rehab facility he shared that he was experiencing shortness of breath, and one of his surgeons finally ordered an x-ray that showed his lungs were full of fluid. Serge was readmitted to the hospital the weekend of April 19th and it was the last time I spoke with him. I have been trying to reach him on-and-off since, and only today did the staff at the rehab facility give me the sense that things had taken a turn for the worse.
Rest in peace, my friend. :innocent:
