Which do you do more? Face or bowl lather? What is your knot preference? I love my "56". Very much a jack of all trades.

Definetly bowl
Colonel - Seems to be what you're looking for

+1. A Colonel was my first Simpson.

Yep, go for the Colonel, great dimenisions on the hair and handle for face and bowl lathering.

You can also try the 57, which does both equally well, and is denser than the Colonel. A Duke 2 would also do the job nicely.

Instead of starting a new thread on the same topic was hoping to get some insights since I too am looking for my first Simpson. Currently using a Muhle Silvertip - which I love. I only face lather and only use creams (more often than not out of a tub). Don't want to spend much over $150, unless there is an ultra-compelling reason to do so.
Thoughts and advice much appreciated.

Colonel is my first and (so far) only Simpson and I think you can't go wrong with it. It has worked really well for me with soaps and creams. I've bowl and face lathered with it. I now have my eye on a Duke 2 or 3 as I think I would like a shorter handle.

Thanks for the help everyone, the colonel seems like the best choice. Just ordered it form WCS!

My suggestion is for a Duke 2 or 3 in Best. Both AMAZING.

For face lathering a Duke 2 is the champ around here. I will use other brushes but the Duke gets the call must of the time
Bowl lathering I choose a Kent BK8 98% of the time (unless I force myself to use something else). If you must get a Simpsons get a Polo but that will bust your budget big time

The Duke is really close to perfection.
#2 is great, may be the #3 is better for bowl lathering (the handle is longer and the loft is bigger). Well worth the extra cost in comparison to the Colonel IMHO.
