OK, I hinted rather hard at working on something complex during the "Competition IV", and though it ain't done yet, I think from the following you can get a general idea of what I'm getting at here.
First, ya gotta get the razor to stay suspended between the rods, which have to be spaced big enough to handle some large blades...rubber bands work real nice! Then you gotta hook the rods together.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-nxY2uJf6ye4/T5s2UttX8iI/AAAAAAAAJ8s/Jg-LvrrDTFI/s640/HPIM6120.JPG
then you gotta have gears juuuuust right

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-zeE_lv92LX0/T5s2bWs7sII/AAAAAAAAJ90/seN6Y9wAMiQ/s640/HPIM6155.JPG
then you assemble (currently held together by gravity, wing, and a prayer):

true, I need to make 4 more gears and a couple dowels for the middle (one holding the bottom up and one pushing the top down), get some o-rings to hold the dowels, and redrill some holes or remake the supports (they are all offset in one direction wrong!), then build a box around it with one of the dowels sticking out so I can make all the gears turn (clear top with a lock), but hey, it will put new meaning to "what's up next in my rotation?"
thought you guys would get a kick out of it. I'll let you know when I'm done, and maybe post a video with it in motion.

Just when you think you've seen everything that can possibly go in the shave-den ... and something like this comes along.
Is this a prototype? Or is that the final version?
And how many blades can you fit in there?
I think a simpler 7-day version would be highly marketable.
You might want to look over THIS WEBSITE (http://www.uspto.gov/patents/process/index.jsp) rather carefully.

All I can think about when I see this is Ron Popeil saying:
"set it and forget it!"
I want to see it in motion.
its pretty cool :thumbup1:

'S Wonderful, Marvelous!! Now hook it up to the faucet so when you turn on the water it turns like a water wheel to rotate the razors. It's like the automated carousel at the dry cleaners. Now let's see what razor should I use today? :a14::straight:

Around here rubber bands deteriorate somewhat quickly. I would look for another material personally but that is a genius device. Very nice work and can't wait to see it finished!!!

Yeah well, a bag at Staples was cheap. All the pivots are screwed with #2 screws for just that reason. Really not that big a deal, just putting in the time. A little time here, a little there. Getting the gears right was tricky, the rest of it is just 7/16" and 3/8" dowels and craft sticks.

I've seen that before. The exact same device. The Coyote was using it, if memory serves me correct it was Acme brand.

i feel like there should be a escher put at the bottom, so that as they rotate they can be finished like kriss kross stropper...

Its just like a machine gun belt, just holding razors, not cartridges. Makes me want it to shoot razors out at you like a pez dispenser or something. I was able to load 1 razor and manually push the gearing around to force the razor to make a complete circuit through the maze. Had issues due to the teeth of the gears not wanting to let go to pass to the next gear...so I've since sanded the corners down. Next step is to mount the thing on a board and get the middle gears built and hooked up. Assuming that works, that will be my next full assembly checkpoint.
Huge waste of time, I know...but kinda fun.

I've seen that before. The exact same device. The Coyote was using it, if memory serves me correct it was Acme brand. It also looks like something The Professor would have concocted on Gilligan's Island ... Castaway brand.

Hahahahahaha!
Swap the rubber bands for thin bunjee cord for some longevity.
And hidde most of it away in a cabinet somehow, so only one can be seen/accessed at any given time!

Years later, new house occupants remodeling bathroom...
"cool! Neat contraption behind the wall....and the floor joists...and downstairs walls...oh dear, and in the basement??? I think someone had a problem..."

Looks like the idea is sound. The bottom middle rod needs it's o-rings (didn't buy enough) so it sometimes skips a bit and needs some help, I need a crank or a motor rather than rotating it myself, and of course it needs a box to put around it, but it works! Video has almost a complete cycle in it...keep an eye on the orange-scaled razor...it almost makes it the full lap.
I'm such a goober, but I still wish I had completed it for the Competition IV.... :)

Very cool! I still love the idea of you setting this up inside of the wall, maybe covered with a very modest bathroom cabinet that cycles a razor through every time it's closed and opened again. A razor revolver.

Oh yeah! Make opening and closing the door rotate it one click, so every time you go for a razor it cycles to the next one!!!

Wife: WTF?!!! Why have you knocked out three square feet of drywall bellow the medicine cabinet, near the floor??
Krodor: I had to find my razors
Wife: How did your razors get inside the wall?
Krodor: They fell out of my... Never mind.

Definitely worthy of a custom title.
I know it's not a dead badger, but if he mounts it in the wall maybe he'll turn up a dead mouse? :scared: Especially if he baits it with some cheese. Who said you can't build a better mousetrap?

It's like the Dice-O-Matic (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7n8LNxGbZbs), but for razors. The Slice-O-Matic?
