View Full Version : Name my baby, get a prize

So, we are going to have a little one coming soon. We're hoping for a girl, and thus, this post may be a bit premature.
If it's a girl, we want a name that starts with the letter A. I really loved the name Atalaya, but you don't argue with a pregnant woman. I'm still trying to talk her into it and am hoping that she'll be really drugged when they ask her name at delivery. (Provided it is a girl).
So, throw some names out there. Baby is not due until December.
If your name is chosen, you'll win a really cool prize. I'm not going to tell you just yet. Value will be a bit over $50. It is not anything I've yet had on my site.
So, simply start throwing names out there. If two people state the same name, the first one will be the winner, if that name is selected. The Mama will be the deciding factor in who wins. Sorry, my hands are tied on this one.
Now, Italian names, Russian names, Indian names, whatever. Throw them out there. Just no common stuff like Annie. Each entry needs to be different too, not just another variation of the name.
The baby's brother's name is Anderson.
Have fun, and may the best name win!
I will post hints as to the prize as time goes on.

Yep, that's right, like Andrea Bocelli. In Italy Andrea is name for boys. In Croatia it's a girl's name. Sometimes Andrea but more often Andreja. Pronounces the same. Male names are Andrej (also Slovenian) or Andrija.

Pronounced Aleece-eeya, or Aleece-ya, or simply Alish-ya
The women in my family liked that the spelling and pronounciation were unique.
Nick names: Aly (al-ee), Alys (aleece), Lys (leece), Lee, Liss, or just Al

Addison (with an "o")...a fine Southern name which would work well for either boy or girl. The gender-specific emphasis can be dealt with by using an appropriate middle name.

We're expecting a girl in mid-July and have been struggling with a name as well...
I can share some our top choices as we are all friends here...
Aria - Air in italian, the melody sung as a solo or duet in an opera
Arianna - Holy one
Angelina - My Goddaughter's middle name (named after her Grandmother)
We still may do combinations of our parents names as well, but that would be using my Mother, Celeste Irene and Mother-in-law, Marilyn Eloise names in some combo.
I am going to let my wife look at the other names in the list and it may hit her in some way to stir up ideas for us as well!
Congrats and good luck!

Just thought of something funny I'd share with Rick and you others who are or have named babies.
My wife is an OB nurse, delivers babies all day. She sees alot of names come through, and some are just not well thought out. One of the most infamous happened earlier last year. Look closely at this name, and see if you can figure out what was, I hope, an unintentional life of pain for this child.
The name was: Shitheed
pronounced: Shi-thEE-d
Poor thing! Please don't name your daughter this Rick, or anyone else! :wink2:

So, my friend calls me up the other day and says he has a name for our baby (if it's a girl....). He says, Addison. You'll have Anderson and Addison. I said, hmmm....I think I like it. I talked to Lisa and she loves it. So, looks like our friend deruitem has made that suggestion. I like his spelling, too. I don't know if we'll do Attison, Addison, Attisen or Attison... But, looks like deruitem is winning the prize! (let's hope it is a girl. )
The prize is actually being made, so have patience. I didn't expect it to have such a huge response so quickly. :-0

You may want to consider that post-Grey's Anatomy, "Addison" is one of the most popular girls' names of the last few years.
There are going to be a LOT of Addisons at the playground in a few years.

congratulations !
Aurore is my favourite, Latin name of the goddess of the Day, Aurora.
Aurore Anderson, sounds great no ?
I know it doesn't start with an "A", but I'm still going with Throckmorton.
Good luck to everyone, especially dad!

I have two daughters and they are named Ellasyn (Ella for short) Reese and Brynlee (Bryn for short) Noelle. My wife is a labor and delivery nurse so it took us about 9000 names to come up with something unique as well as not reminding her of a baby that was a nightmare in the nursery ! :)

Well, this is a shaving forum so I assumed you meant names of shaving products or methods that start with "A". Arko? Aristocrat? Ace? Astra?

How about this spelling
Addisyn?
Others would be
Aiyanna - meaning eternal bloom (like a flower...or a shaving brush)
Arianna - meaning holy
Autumn - self explanitory and the most beautiful of all seasons

Addiss
Looks like you have a winner after reading through them all just now I didn't see the name I was going to say but the one you picked was closed to it, just with the end of it left off. I have one friend with the name Addiss and it always sticks out as I've met anyone else with that name.

I'm partial to Piper. I also like Maggie....kind of old, but not very common these days.

Piper is cool. Funny looking A on there, though. Hey, congrats again to the winner! His gift is still being crafted. He shall get it soon and post pictures here for all to see!

OK folks, Rick is a good friend, and a super nice guy to boot, so I told him I would PIF the prize for this contest.
So here's what I put in the mail to Matt this morning (and yes, I'm aware that I'm WAY late in getting this done). It's an otherwise lowly Gold Dollar #66, lightly pimped - Phantom nose, spike point, and worked heel - no stabilizers. Satin polish.
Scales are cocobolo finished in shellac, pinned with brass.
Honed up on my vintage Coticule - dilucot, then finished on Llyn Melynllyn with slurry, then water, then my Welsh Thuri™ with water and then oil. 150 laps on the latigo. Fantastic BBS test shave with it last night.
Hope you like it Matt!!!
