Is there really that much of a difference between a badger vs. a boar brush? I cheaped out and got a boar brush, it works fine.. I was just wondering.

i had an omega boar but recently bought a shavemac silvertip badger. I'd say the results are comparable, however the badger is more efficient, quicker, and has that soft feel on the face. the boar brush does the job, the badger just does it better

I'd suggest that there is a HUGE difference....but a Boar's Brush will work just fine.

I made a thread about this awhile back that might be of some help - see HERE (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=36&highlight=badger+boar)

Hope this helps!

Good thread Joel, thanks for the insight. I have an omega, I guess I'll need to start saving.

Now - one thing I gotta say.... the Omega boar brushes are much, MUCH nicer than the POS burma shave used in that test above.

If you are on a budget and you can wait a little bit (a month or so) I am working on a custom B&B entry level shaving brush that we'll be able to (hopefully) offer year round - BUT, it will only be entry level in price - not quality/performance. The idea is to be able to offer a top quality shaving brush in a silvertip or finest badger, with a dense knot and a comfortable handle for ideally around $35-40. It won't be as big, flashy or prestigious as the yearly B&B brush - but it will be a really nice option that will leave very little to be desired for shavers on a budget.

So far as I am concerned - you shouldn't have to have a ton of $ to get an amazingly luxurious, close and comfortable shave.

Hope this helps...

Ram,
It should be a pretty sharp brush. I am receiving some proto's of it next week, in a clear handle - a la Plisson in three different hair grades. Hopefully within a few weeks the final version will be ready for you fellas!

It should be the best value in shaving brushes, and will give fellas a unique look, only available in much more expensive brushes. :thumbup1:

Chris,
I'd obviously say more, however it just seems too pre-mature. Until I have tested the hair grades, and the design is finished and I have the finished - ready for action model in hand, it just seems as though it would be a waste of everyones time to discuss it any further. Since I am not sure if it will be up to my standards yet, and I haven't ordered a batch of them (which would guarantee exact cost/pricing details) I don't want to let anyone down.

Regardless, this is something Nick and I have been actively pursuing for some time, and we would REALLY like to be able to offer beginners, and shavers on a budget a REALLY top notch shaving brush for as much, or just a few dollars more than the wonderful $35 C&E EJ brush in best badger. Don't get me wrong the EJ best is superlative, and right now, the best deal out there - BUT I also think the brush is lacking in luxury, density and hair grade, and think I have found a BETTER brush, with a BETTER grade of hair, greater density, custom B&B logo'ed and fully hand-made for the same price.. or possibly a few more dollars.

The ONLY downside? Nick and I will have to front the money and order quite a few to have them on hand all the time (for new wetshavers and the like) and keep an inventory... which I normally wouldn't be interested in doing, and I HATE shipping things, but I figure since Nick and I will be shipping out things and holding an inventory for the Decant Club, and sampler kits - we might as well do the full offering and get a damn good brush we can offer for beginners & wetshavers on a budget as well.

One more teaser.... Nick and I MIGHT (this is a BIG time MIGHT) have figured out a way to get a custom handled, adjustable slant bar
