Picked up a cane the other day

A while back, I agreed with my wife that, if the price dropped below a price point, I would get a Cold Steel City Stick. Well, the dollar dropped compared to the norwegian krone, and it dropped below the cap, so I went ahead and grabbed one.

Anyone else sporting a cane?

Three reasons; I occasionally need a cane due to back and knee issues (though that seems to be becoming a thing of the past as I continue riding my bike), as an accessory to costumes etc., and for self defense. I have a fair bit of experience with self defense using a cane to keep people at a more comfortable distance. The city stick is simply designed to stand up to the demands of that. I belong to a gentlemen's lodge (akin to the freemasons), which sometimes has its meetings in the dodgier parts of town. I like being able to defend myself should I be mugged, as I know some of the other members have been.

Mostly though, it's because it's a very cool cane.

No, I do not have a cane. But after viewing some Cold Steel videos (especially the sword cane) I will never look at a man with a cane the same again.

I use a cane because of my knees are so arthritic and it helps with walking, keeping me upright.

If you like it that's all that matters.

That design somewhat limits it's striking usefulness compared to traditional j-hook cane. The straight design limits you to swinging it like a baseball bat or a really long eskrima, and to holding it with two hands to thrust with any effectiveness, However I'm sure that just having it offers a great level of deterrence as long as you don't make yourself look like a easy target with an exaggerated limp or anything.

As I have taken up daily walking, I've been considering getting a walking stick (my vanity forbids my calling it a cane yet) as part of my fashion accessories. And the defense it might come in handy for is more for fending off animals like unleashed dogs, wild coyotes, etc., as I often have to walk after dark past some undeveloped woods.

I've got another one as well, it is a five foot long piece of wood that I cut down myself, and which I have spent a lot of time making pretty and suitable for walks in the wood.
