Hi guys ;)

I've just bought my first set of wet-shaving equipments which consists of a Duke 3 in it.

When I open the Duke 3, there is a little warning note in it, telling me NOT TO soak it in warm water.:nuke:

This is contrary to what I've seen from the youtube videos, on "How to Prepare a Brush for the first time".

Any suggestions on how I should start of using the brush?

Many Thanks !

Can you post the exact wording of the note and tell us if it is on a Simpsons insert or instructions from the retailer? I've never heard of this with any manufacturer other than Thater.

My Simpson inserts say "do not boil" but nothing about warm water.

That's odd. Is this a new insert they are including with there brushes. What's next an insert that says keep dry?

"Not for use on face."

This. You are actuallly going to use warm/hot water when making lather with your brush.

Most likely it's the common sense thing, if you can stick you finger in there comfortably for 30 sec. it's most likely not going to harm your brush. Basically warm is ok, but not boiling hot as this WILL damage the hair.

I can confirm the 'do not boil' instruction. I think the note goes on to say 'as the brush has already been sterilized' or something along those lines.

my new duke 3 manchurian came with this new "zerox" paper insert, nothing like the old heavy stock red and white instruction cards....as for very hot water,I think more damage would be done to the handle if guys try to soak their brushes, handle immersed,in hot water. In time this is a sure way to induce cracks.I made this mistake when I was young, and had no idea of proper brush handling technique.

I think part of it also suggests not to soak it over night or anything like that. If it smells, just use it. It will go away. Soaking it overnight in water or cream or whatever is a recipe for ruin

They probably mean too hot water can damage your brush (main cause of shedding).
By the way hot water can irritate your skin.
Temperatures around 100-105°F are reasonable and comfortable, 110°F at worst. Naturally, YMMV, but temperatures which your fingers can bear are safe for your brush and your face.

Enjoy your shaves.

That is odd! Never heard no warm water; i can understand hot, but warm!

Thaters brushes come with a warning not to use it on your face as "whiskers are stronger than bristles and may damage them"

yeah the best way to keep from damaging your brush is to just not use it :whistling:

These are the instructions that have come with every brush I have bought direct from Simpsons. They seem like good advice to me.
