Hi guys! I got this last week, im a noob in terms of all this =[

There is no stamp or markings anyway apart from Gillette on the comb.

It came in a small silver case, and says made in canada.

Thanks for any help, all appreciated.

Wow, very nice. I can't believe the number of noobies that stumble up on these things! It's worth about $1.50, I'll pay twice that and shipping so I can finish my collection! :whistling::whistling: Seriously, nice catch.

Here is a link to help date it, also, look at the top of this page, shavewiki, then click the How old is my Gillette tab.

That is, as they say, a nice find. On another note, I've been away from the B&B for more than a year and I'm wondering what happened to the old experts who would weigh in on this stuff, such as Asylum Guido?

Yeah, probably dates from the mid-teens through the 1920s. Any serial # on the inside barrel? (You may not have looked there.)

I am fairly new here, just since December. I see Alex, Achim, Tom, a few others. I think I've saw Guido, but not sure. I sent Venom a PM a few weeks ago, I was interested in his OC Webster. Never heard anything, guess he's gone. But welcome back!

Haven't seen a fresh post from AsylumGuido for quite some time . . . but that ol' boy sure knew a bunch about Gillettes! Achim (mr-razor.com) is a great resource (and a nice guy, too!) Like jbradley said, there are several others who have taught us all quite a bit here . . . but I do miss Guido's no-nonsense approach to razors, especially Super Speeds!

Guido still logs in, but I haven't seen him post in a long time.

Any search can turn up volumes of his vast knowledge.

From what I can see your razor has a big old split in the handle there. Maybe it's just my eyes playing tricks on me?

The picture of it in the case. Looks like it nearly split the entire length. No worries though. You can fix it or have it repaired, or even have a newer custom handle made.

Nice razor and good shaver. Finding one with all the teeth and all of them straight is not as easy as it sounds. You got a good one - even if the handle is cracked.

I'm very new so not much experience, but I did find a silver-cased Pocket Edition Old Type - Ball End. Your blade case is in better shape than mine but I have waaay smaller cracks which I'm not worrying about. My serial # is on top-side of bottom head plate and starts with 'M', which appears to date from 20's - but mine is U.S. made. Mine also has PAT # near handle end. They changed numbering system, then discontinued and brought back at different times which I can't remember. Check your razor really well and check the wiki. I'll look for another link someone sent me so if you PM me I might remember to look it up. Lots of help on this forum, esp'ly the BOTOC. Mine just got cleaned and takes its maiden voyage tomorrow. Happy shaving!

The diamond logo started in 1908.......- its between Oct 17/1927- Aug 28/1928 that's when serial numbers briefly ended and started(that would make it a New Improved, not Old Type).....still looking hold on,most of the numbering system stopped or was rearranged once the original patents expired in Oct/1921, that year the simplified design became the Brownie and sold for lot less. The 1920 patent New Improved Razor was introduced in early 1921.(original 1904 patent expire in Nov 1921) many new models were made as competion arose and the 1929-30, 1938, and 1950's patents expired....this has made the numbering system and dating features a complexity.
