I stumbled more or less over this razor that was listed on ebay.uk. On first glance I concluded that this is a very good looking razor indeed. Aesthetically very nice. Apollo? I browsed around and found that Jake did post a few posts on the Apollos (the german ones as opposed to a french brand that shares the same name). Seemed to be a fine shaver indeed.. Big bonus.
In their heyday the germans had a lot of different razor brands and while Apollo was not the biggest they were certainly bigger than one of their competitors that is still going strong. Merkur.
Knowing some german I browsed through the german shaving forums and got the impression that the Apollo brand do have respect among collectors. On first glance it looks that- my to be razor- has been plated with silver but apparently the Apollos were plated with chrome..
As stated I have not received it yet. Are any members more familiar with the brand and possibly the model? If interest is found I will add some more info after I have received it.

That's a nice razor. The handle very Art-Deco. Look at the teeth on the blade guard! Let us know how aggressive she is! Good score.

I have one of these, but it came to me in a different case. It is a remarkable shaver. Absolutely brilliant. I do not know the name of the model, either, so I'll be looking forward to a reply that fills in the information. Your set, by the way, looks fabulous. A great find.

Yep it´s Art Deco alright. The teeth in comparison with the guard looks scary huh.. I have seen a few others here around and apparently the gap does not affect a very good shave without nicks. (Well I could not tell at the moment could I?)

I had lost a bid on one of those. I love the look, reminds me better looking handle version of the Merkur 1904 OC. I know very little about Apollo, I thought they where made by Merkur, as I have seen razors that say Apollo on them, but have the Merkur symbol on base of the handle.

Dang it, as if I don't watch enough on regular ebay, now you've got me watching ebay uk & ebay france. Having to learn conversion rates! That is a NICE looker! Hope she shaves as good as she looks.

Yeah, I read that Merkur did manufacture the Apollos but this that was contradicted by several people. What I recall- this was some reading a go in foreign language- is that Gillette accuired Apollo somewhere in the 30`s. I´ll check the hande and will post pics when i receive it. Myself I just I am extremely happy to find this razor that really sticks out (in my humble oponion anyway).

I have an Apollo Mikron which is an adjustable Apollo. It is probably my most cherished of all my 44 saftey razors. I don't have a digital camera so I can't post any pictures, but the Apollo Mikron is outstanding in appearance and in performance. I believe it was made in Germany circa 1950-1970's. It gives wonderfully smooth shaves and is micro-adjustable. Solid hefty feel and thick handle. Formidable appearance. Clearly it seems the Merkur Pogress is a descendant. I would say the Apollo Mikron was the "Fat Boy" of the Apollo line. I found it in an antique store, mint condition, and I bought it for $12 dollars. Clearly the store did not realize what they had!

Oh yeah, I love the Apollo's. This is one of the nicest scores I have seen for a while. So glad to see one of our members get such a nice set. You have to let us know if she shaves as good as she looks.

NP, but you encouraged me to look for the thread where I wrote about it. It's here:

It turns out that I was mistaken. The head design appears to be the same, but mine has a different handle.
Regardless, I have no doubt that yours will perform just as well. Enjoy!
