I noticed the other day that the sample pack of Derby's I am using has the numbers 1-4 on it, one per edge per side. Do they have any meaning?

I think they are used for QC checks, so they can easily know which part of the machine has a problem.
According to where on the blade the edge doesn't pass QC inspections.

Make sense?

The numbers are a code. If you break the code you can find a hidden treasure in the Derby factory.

If you count the hairs on an Omega #49 Pro, then toss 13 unwrapped blades in the air on a moonless night, count the sum of the blade numbers showing when they land and divide the brush hair number by this amount, the secret to lathering Modern Williams is revealed.

1 is North, 2 is South, 3 is West and 4 is South East because you cannot get a BBS facing true East... ever.

No. It's just a code during the manufacture process (kind of).

First, you have to understand that most razor blades are manufactured in countries where darts are very popular. The numbers on the blade are used for a betting game when you shave with the other members of your dart team before a match night. You flip the blades like quarters. If someone is cut by a blade during the flip, they automatically lose and everyone laughs at them and they have to buy drinks for everyone all night. Otherwise, when the blades land, you find the number on your blade that appears right side up to you. Whoever's number is lowest has to buy the first round of drinks at the match. If two people tie, they flip again and whoever loses the tie has to buy TWO rounds. That's it. If you don't belong to a dart team, the numbers don't mean anything to you. I hope my explanation clears this matter up for everyone.
