As a relative newbie to DE shaving, I thought that upon reaching my shave number 75 with a DE I would risk a Feather blade. I bought a pack of feathers along with a load of others when I started out but did not have the courage to try them ! Every time I changed blades I looked at the packet of feathers and thought to myself "next time" anyway I eventually plucked up the courage to load 1 into my EJ89L.
I did not want to rush my shave so had a nice long shower whilst soaking my brush and TOBS Sandalwood. After my shower I whipped up my lather letting it rest on my face for a couple of minutes then proceded with my first pass (WTG) after 3/4 strokes I stopped thinking that my angle was wrong as it seemed like I wasn't taking any stubble off at all. I was WRONG! the feathers are that sharp that there was no indication that I was actually cutting the stubble at all, it was as though the stubble magically dissappeared as I passed my razor over it! Relather and repeat XTG+XTG and finally ATG left me with the closest, smoothest shave that I have EVER had! I thought that I had had a few BBS shaves using my favourite Gillette 7o'clock yellows, but these feathers take BBS to another level, in fact 48hrs later there was still nowhere as much stubble as normal.
Whether I can justify the extra cost of the feathers is debatable at the minute, as my Gillette 7o'clock yellows can give me up to 6 shaves from a single blade. Just how many a feather will give I dont know yet. Anyway for now I am quite happy to stick with my "yellows" and use the feathers for "special occasions" I just wish that I had had the courage to try them ages ago, so if anybody is thinking about trying a feather blade but not sure I say give them a try, just make sure that you dont rush and take your time with your prep and they can give you the closest shave you could image.

Congratulations with the Feather!:thumbup1: It makes for a perfect pairing with the EJ razors, and I have always promoted newbies trying them early, not just once they have had a few shaves under their belts. Many have said that these blades do not last as long as others... I always found them to be good for 5-6 shaves.

I went straight from Derby's to Feathers and haven't looked back. I am with you. I get at least 4 shaves per blade. What kind of beard do they have or what are they doing to the blades that they only get one shave?!? Yikes.
