Ok, so I decided to spend the night at a friends house.. Just so happens I bought a new Simpsons Berkeley brush earlier today, some glycerin, and a small bottle of gft english fern cologne from Pasteur pharmacy, but I didn't buy any soap, as I have way too much.. I think its the first time I went in there without buying soap.. Also, my friend Rossvtaylor here on b&b sent me some straights to try, so I happened to have it with me in my bag to show a friend I was meeting at Pasteurs what my good friend Ross gifted . Its a small 4/8 Tuckmar Sheffield steel, made in solingen razor..Anyway, he sent it shave ready, and I only used it for a light touch up..Anyway so here I am at my friends house, I shave everyday without exception, so luckily I have the new brush with me, THE Tuckmar straight, Glycerin, cologne...but no Soap!! So what do I do? Head over to the nearest 24 hr CVS, and decide, barbasol, or The dreaded Williams! Well as you can see in photo, Williams it is... Luckily I bought that glycerin earlier that may help it along. So tomorrow, I'll be, shaving with an uber sharp 4/8 tuckmar straight that I've very little experience with, I've only shaved about 20 times total with a straight period, and Williams! Yay!, I also picked up some plain jane witch hazel...
So, no Strop, I think I stropped it yesterday? After some very light use, and Williams :blue:
Should I use the williams our Barbasol?
Wow, have I become spoiled, with the Cella, Latoja,Floid,GFT Coconut,Razorock etc!
Lets see what kind of shave I have in the morning...

Williams no question! Its sink or swim time for you buddy, better get the mix right!!! And if you do, you may have found the soap for you!!! The board has mad a big change over the past few months, the williams bashers are in the minority now!

Theres no problem. Its more good fortune, that it wasnt really planned.. I have a straight with me that I only have with me because I was going to show it to a friend last night, , and really by remote chance happened to pick up a brush.. So when I decided to not go home last night and spend the night art. A friends, who I'm helping this morning I had pretty much all I need except the soap....no, problem at, all buddy,

I actually lathered it up last night to break in the new brush.... It actually lathered damn well, maybe they reformulated it?...Now, as long as out doesn't melt my skin off, well be ok..

No strop, you could always try palm stropping, works well in a pinch, just be careful.

I really enjoy all the banter here, especially when we get into the purist/elite discussions! OMG, Williams! What a cross to bear. You would think that this poor fellow had been exciled to a third world country and forced to use lye soap for shaving. Going out on a limb here and opening myself up to ridicule... If an experienced shaver can't make an acceptable lather from Williams or about any other "cheap" soap, they better go back to a can of Foamy. Geez, guys.... in a pinch, you can even "get by" and shave with a bar of face soap or shampoo when traveling. If nothing else, the rustic experience will make you appreciate getting back to your den and favored products.

Well, it wasnt bad at all.. Lather looks better than it is though. You have to work fast shaving our it breaks down in a nanosecond...The glycerin
helped.. As did a light stropping on my Jeans232266232267 232280
And SteveWY, it is just that, light banter, not a cross to bear. Don't take everything so seriously.. Were having fun here

Glad you survived the ordeal.
I think the real crisis wasn't that you were stuck there without soap, but that you had a new(ish) straight and no soap. How can one resist the siren song of new shave gear long enough to get back home???
Lesser men than you would have given in and run home.
