Hi guys,

I got this razor from my grandpa last week, and I'm wondering what it is? I looked around a bit and it looks like a Gillette Tech, but I could be mistaken. There's no numbers that I could find, but it does say 'made in England' on the baseplate. If someone could help identify (and perhaps date?) this razor I'd be very grateful.

If you could take some shots of the razor disassembled we might be able to get a better idea with some of the spotting features.
I picked up one similar a week ago(no Made in England) that I'd thought to be a mid to late 40's Tech but from what I could tell after getting it home and cleaning it looked to be a full Gillette frankenrazor consisting of a Tech head and baseplate mated to a NEW handle.
My purely speculative guess would be you may also have a similar frankenrazor.

Looks to be a Tech head and it's in a Leresche case, maybe it's a Leresche handle as well

+1 It may be a Leresche handle but it may also be some incarnation of an English Tech. Check under the caps to see if it was made in England. Awesome case though.

Thanks guys! I made some pictures of the disassembled razor, maybe that could provide definitive answers :).

I think the handle looks like this English NEW set (from Achim's site). It may have been a factory substitution for a same-period Tech, but I suspect it was a user modification. The logo on the cap does not seem to show up on UK Techs until about 1949. The center bar under the cap is a style I have not seen before, but Gillette UK seems to have experimented with many different blade alignment designs in that period.

The oblong holes by the guard in the base plate (versus triangular holes) put it as a late 40's Gillette Tech but the Gillette logo on the cap is different from my Gold Tech of a similar era so it could be a pure Gillette Frankenrazor.
Not that that's major deal what's important is the family history.
