It's quite possible that I'll be getting married about a year to a year and a half from now. My father will be the best man. For his gift, I've been thinking about getting a pair of nice razors and having them engraved, with the idea of them becoming family heirlooms. The budget I'm looking at is somewhere from $250-500 each.

They would probably be used for shaving very rarely. I'd like a good balance of functionality and presentation, but if one aspect had to take precedence, it would probably be presentation.

Would you recommend buying new, or looking for some nice vintage blades and having them restored and having nice custom scales made?

How about wholly custom razors? Can't beat a custom from the presentation standpoint. If you look in the restoration forums there are 2 guys who make some masterpieces in steel IMO.

Custom is nice, but will you get that for his budget?
