All SOLD , thanks B&B

Hey there, B&B brethren!

In an effort to make an experimental foray into the world of lapping film honing/touch-ups affordable, I'm trying to share some of my good fortune and I've put together a package. Well, a few actually. This is not a money-making venture for me, as I think you'll see. The components actually cost me a bit more than I'm charging. My "business model" is that I lose a little bit on each sale, but I make it up in volume.... :-)

So, if you want to try out some lapping film you can do so for little risk. The $35 includes an almost-shave-ready razor, a nicely cut 3/4-inch thick flat plate with non-skid feet, and two cut sheets (each) of 5, 3, and 1 micron lapping film. And, of course, shipping anywhere the USPS will send a domestic flat-rate box. The plate and sheet dimensions are 3 1/4 x 8 1/4 inches - the 8 1/4 length was selected to fit into a small flat rate box. The plate's not a cheap granite tile, but is a nice dense and heavy synthetic quartz product and I've eased the top edges. And the razor may not be pretty, but it will make a nice shaver. I added some photos and the razors in the photo are some of the actual razors I'll be including - others will be of similar quality and condition. But, the kit only includes one razor. In the group there's a Wosty, a De Roma, a Shumate, a Barhep Solingen, a Winner, a Capital Cutlery Van Camps American, an Edward Erk, an Imperial, and others. Some have patina, but there's no rust and no broken scales - they're all shavers. The razor you get will be unknown, but from this group.

I think you'll be pleased with the value and I'll refund the money of anyone who's not happy (if you'll pay the return shipping). I have enough decent razors, film and plates to put together 8 or 10 of these kits and they'll ship within 24 hours of purchase. International shipping is considerably more expensive, but I'm happy to send it for actual cost if any of you international folks want one.

Thanks all,

Ross

This sounds like it should be posted in the Hobby Vendor section.

Ummm... That's a joke! See "This is not a money-making venture..."

Intriguing. I find that my special skill is in making things duller, not sharper... Maybe with a kit like this for practice...

Okay, I'll post some pics shortly - I thought about it, but didn't want anyone to say "hey, I want that razor!". But, I'll post some representative pics.

And, yes, that was a joke - I am just a member and am not in the shaving business nor am I a vendor/hobbyist. I have gone through some major SRAD and bought a whole bunch of lapping film, so I thought I'd share.

Status update - I'm gladly surprised at the interest, so I pulled out the wet saw and was able to cut a few more. So, I have 11 total kits. 3 are paid for, 3 are pending, so there are 5 left.

This seems like a crazy good deal. I have wanted to try straights, but the cost to get into them has always seemed like too much for me with all the strops and homes that one would need. I know nothing about using straights really.
Would a kit like this be all I need to get going? What else would I need or want in the future? Would I need some stones and a strop? Excuse my ignorance.

You'd still need a strop. But a good beginner strop can be had from Larry at Whipped Dog (http://whippeddog.com/products/view/poor-man-strop-kit) or Ken Rup at Rup Razor. (http://ruprazor.com/store/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=22&category_id=9&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=32)

Hey Xslim, the razor I'm including will be near-shave-ready but if you're completely new to straights and don't want to finish off your own I'd recommend a sight unseen deal from Larry at Whipped Dog. And while you're there, buy his poor man's strop. Or the Rup strop. I wouldn't recommend my kit for your first razor, as you'll want to know that your first shave is on a truly ready to go edge. And you'll know what truly shave ready is with a Whipped Dog razor. But once you know what shave ready is, you can play with this kit and the included razor to get practice. I hope that makes sense. I'm not trying to avoid a sale, but I want you to get off the a good start and this is more "step two."

Okay, I'm almost out - I have two more left.

Edit on 3/26: all are sold, but I've ordered more film (a lot of it) since there was a lot of interest in just pre-cut film. Everyone who ordered in this group will be getting another envelope in a couple weeks with more film sheets (no extra charge) to keep you lapping and happy. :-)

To all who ordered these, I got more lapping film in - but not in time to cut it and get it in the mail to you before leaving on a long out-of-country business trip. As I promised, more will be on its way at no extra charge. But it will be about 3 weeks. I am not offering more for sale, so I hope this update post isn't a B/S/T violation. I just wanted those I'd promised to know I hadn't forgotten or flaked out.
