So, I received the Gillette 1940's Super Speed I was so generously PIF'd by Dlskier (Thanks again!) and finally the weekend has arrived. I decided to not have my first DE shave with a time constraint to worry about (or have a sliced up face at work!) So, loaded a Derby Platinum and set to work with lathering my Col. Conk lime jello, I mean, soap. Should also mention that I had just received my Col. Conk four soap sampler from leesrazors.com. He made a mistake on my order, sent 2 almond and no amber. The world was ending! Meh, stuff happens, anyway he is sending me the amber free and told me to keep the second almond, so can't really complain! I was going to PIF it here, but a friend of mine is trying to learn to straight shave and was using canned goo, so I gave it to him. (Does that still count as a PIF? I did direct him here for info.)

But, I digress from my purpose. My very first DE shave! The first stroke was along my right side to remove my two days of side burn growth right at the hairline. Didn't feel or hear anything, damn, missed the angle! Felt the place I just ran the razor and there was barely any hair left! I had got the angle right, but I didn't feel the blade! Nice!!! The only place I felt the blade was around my chin, my hair is rather tough there. After two WTG passes, I did one XTG and finished with an ATG. So far, not a problem at all! Then I got cocky. :redface-new:

Still had stubble on my dang chin, so I said to myself, "Self," I said, "I'm doing so well, I don't know what those people on the forum where going on about! I bet if I use more pressure I'll clean off my chin in no time!"

Well, I ended up with a very smooth shave, and a very sore chin  Funny, that dude holding the "Oops!" sign has the same shade of red I did on my chin! Three weepers too.

I learned my lesson, listen to the community, and now I know that I can shave quick enough with my DE to do so in the morning before work. Time to buy a blade sample pack! (Please honey?)

I feel your pain. My first few weeks of shaving with a DE had me walking around with red face. Not only was I using too much pressure but I also made multiple strokes over the same area without relathering.

You're missing out, that sound is one of my favorite parts of shaving, it's very satisfying.

My problem when I started was not the pressure, it was going over the same area without relathering. For me, this was the most difficult habit to break from using carts, and it also made the most difference when I finally kicked the habit.

It's a process, stay with it and figure out was works for you...which might be drastically different than others. After all, it's your face.

Good luck!

Welcome aboard the good ship B&B. Take a stroll on the promenade deck and enjoy the voyage. :thumbup1:

Always remember, relax but be vigilant when you shave!
