View Full Version : guess the new B&B brush

so gentleman, the word is there is a new B&B brush on its way. joel has eluded that it might be coming from the UK. i have a very strong suspicion as to what it is (well, at least what the knot will be). if i am right this will be a definite must buy brush for me.

what do you guy think it will be?

cheers,
ryan

If it's an English company my guess is Rooney.

I believe Rooney worked with the SMF folks on one of their group brushes. I'm guessing Vulfix and Kent are too big to deal with us. And I'm also thinking the folks working on the brush are no longer "Simpsons sychopants" due to the quality issues so they aren't banging on Simpsons' door for a group brush.

Fun to speculate but I am not going to wager any cash dollars on this one!

DustBow

I can just about guarantee it's not a Rooney.

I'm guessing it's going to be from a "smaller" maker we don't hear/talk much about. Time will tell....but hopefully not too much time

joel

There are a lot of companies on the list..... a lot of good English companies on the list.... but you're forgetting a few

One hint though.... it isn't a Rooney. After what Lee Sabini did to QED Charles, I want nothing to do with the guy. (But that's another story)

Interesting choices... personally a Vulfix, Simpsons, or Kent would be great by me. I've been in the market for all 3.

But, it would be absolutely incredible if one of the "3T's" came through. I don't know if their brushes are just rebrands (I think the Taylors = Simpsons, but not sure), but T&H particularly offers a couple really sharp looking ones.

None of the 3T's make brushes, at least anymore, so far as I know. They rebrand from the major manufacturers.

The only I can think of that make their own are Edwin Jagger (but Joel wasn't happy about how things went last year, I think) and Men-U (synthetic B&B brush? Surely not). I think the three Ts, Harris and Salter all sell rebranded brushes.

Of course, it could very well be a non-UK company, in which case we get a few other interesting contestants (like Whish! :P).

It's a very limited brush that will be made by Castle Forbes. There is an extremely rare and limited badger hunting season in the UK this year and Joel is making a quick hunting trip to the 6000 acre Forbes estate to bag a few for the forum. I hear he is taking his Dachshund, Fluffy, to flush them out. You can be assured that your brush won't shed, but there is a risk of a shot pellet or two falling out at some point.

I’ve not been a member of the forums when a B&B brush was offered. I’m interested in getting a new brush anyway, and have some money in my paypal that I may want to save for this brush. Does anyone know when the announcement may be made about the brushes? And also, when the B&B brushes are ordered, is there an option to get different hair grades or handles, or is it usually one design? Sorry if I’m asking dumb questions, but if a new quality brush is in the works, I may want to hold of on any purchases so I can buy one.

Can't speak for sure on this one Boogie, but last time there were two different handle choices (horn and ebony) and two different badger hair choices. No idea about the time line, you'll have to here from the mods on that.

You could also specify if you wanted the writing printed upside down or not depending on if you used a brush holder. So there were quite a few options available.

I was just reading up on the old B&B brush, and it kept sounding better and better, hearing that it's packed so densely. Then I remembered there's a new brush coming. Any hints on how this should be different from the last one? More affordable? Maybe a step up from the last one?

Or maybe it says somewhere in here and I didn't see it.

My guess is Mason Pearson.

I actually owned that very brush a while back. It was a nice brush- I regret selling it- but it was a "pure" brush with a good amount of prickle that originally cost $100 (I got it as a gift). And make no mistake- it wasn't like Kent where they call everything "Pure" but are really silvertip... (It was a lower grade) There silvertip cost $200 (no finest or HMW- just normal silvertip)

If the brush is actually in the $100-$150 range- I wonder what the bristle would be like, considering the price range of the rest of the their brushes.

I don't have a picture of the 2007 B&B brush, but this weekend i'll post a picture of what might become the 2008 B&B brush.......

A stunning beauty....i would call it the "She-brush"........never seen a more feminine brush before in the hands of a man: sensual, attractive, exciting, sexy, breathtaking, beautiful, appealing.......all in all the perfect "proportions". There's no equivalent on the market today, it's a reflection of bygone beauty.....keep watching this place....

Peter, I don't know whether I should thank you profusely for these hints that are being dropped or shake my fist in frustration, wanting more. I guess today I'll be a man about it and thank you profusely. :thumbup1:

Not sure about tomorrow. SBAD can make people a little bit irrational. Not that you would know anything about that.

so, does this mean the date has been pushed back a bit? not trying to be critical, just factual. easy to understand if it has been pushed back a bit.

i am sure that these guys will let us know more about the brush when they can. it sounds like the postal strike in the uk is hold it up a bit. from reading joels brush wars i would expect nothing but a top of the line brush. it will probably be unique and luxurious while maintaining a great value. i for one have it on my must buy list.

cheers,

Ryan's got it pegged. To be honest with you - to a certain extent the manufacturer will be moot - as all that matters is performance. The brush has to look a very specific way, feel a very specific way, have a specific density, etc. We aren't saying "who" right now - as if the first proto's don't cut the mustard, or the company we are currently working with can't deliver the exact requirements, we'll move on to the next option/company.
