View Full Version : Breaking News RE: Shick Injectors.... back in production....

joel

Fellas,
Jay the president of the nowoncampus (or whatever) company just called me, and I had a chit chat with him... and I've got some superb news... they purchased the rights to manufacture the Shick injector, and shick adjustable injector, and are going to be re-introducing the shick injector (manufactured by the same company and tested/certified by Shick) brand spankin' new - from $15 for the standard model to $18 to the fully loaded adjustable. Before you fellas soil yourself to run in line to get one of the few available... calm down... there won't be "a few" available - they are re-manufacturing them by the double digit THOUSANDS - so EVERYONE will be able to purchase as many as they so desire. They will be available for sale in aprox 4 weeks, and in about 2 weeks or so - Jay will send me one to test/review and talk to you guys about - so you know you aren't buying a possible "flop."

Finally.... a NEW adjustable injector, at a reasonable price - no more of that $100+ stuff on ebay. Now - a reliable source for the razor - and legit shick injector blades!

Hip hip.... horay!

Thanks for the good news, Joel!

I hope they're sold in England though, I'd quite like a Feather Razor but you can't get them at all here.

Do you have each of the original models to compare to or will the review just be straight up?

It depends on which model of standard and adjustable is sent - as there are a wide array of examples. I do not currently have an adjustable injector - but I have tried one several times. As far as functionality, they should be IDENTICAL as they are the exact same razor, made in the exact same plant (IE exact same dies, tolerances, etc) the only difference being the "new" ones will not have the Shick logo, and they are made of a higher quality steel that is more corrosion resistant. I'll mainly be testing/examining these to insure they are of the same, or superior qaulity of the original, and that they shave/function properly, so basically it will not be a "side by side" comparison of old VS new.

Brian,
I am not sure if you could find blades in the UK at a brick and mortar store, but you could order a large quantity online and solve your problem

Speaking of blades.... when we get our bulk razor order settled out - we should also do a bulk injector order so as to get the lowest price on blades as well!

Well, Well, Well...., Jacob Schick's Injector somes back from the dead!

Does this company have the distribution network? Are the American public ready for a Schick return?

Going retro could be the next big thing in male grooming - then again it could be a big flop. I wish them luck.

Depends on how many fellas we get ordering.... of course the larger the group buy the greater the discount. Hopefully we can get 50+ guys and i'll see if I can't shoot for free shipping for all of us and a free pack of shick blades - but we'll have to see how many fellas we can get on board, and how good my bargaining skills are

Randy

Randy,
For what it is worth - according to Jay there will be absolutly no short supply of these razors in 3 weeks when they are released.... literally they'll have 10's of thousands available to sell to the public, and are/will be getting a steady supply from now on. Just as a heads up, as once we put together a group buy - you might want to "move" your order into the group buy, as we'll get the razors the same time you would if you bought individually, the only difference would be the price.

Just a heads up.

Greetings Marty,

It is a much more forgiving razor. Unlike a DE where form is intimately related to the resulting shave, an injector is very similar to using a machx in that the handle runs almost parallel to your face. I use the adjustable model which sports a very long comfortable handle and is nicely balanced.

I use the adjustable model which sports a very long comfortable handle and is nicely balanced.Actually, it's the blade that's just about parallel to your face, and that's the ideal position. Also, it seems to fall into that position automatically, so there's no guessing about angle. Another thing, the blades are thicker and stiffer, making them ideal for a heavy beard. Some guys with heavy beards have peoblems with DE blades because they're so thin and flexible.

Yep.... in about 5-6 days or so, I'll start a thread and come up with an exact # we want to order and how many packs of blades (I am hoping we can get the price of blades down to $3 a box of 7 instead of $5 for a box of 7, however I found a pack of 11 injector blades at Longs Drugs for only $3.50 - so if they work as well - we might want to source a group buy on those instead). Since nationwidecampus won't have the razors for 3 weeks or so, if we do the poll on how many razors/blades in 5-6 days, let it ride for a week, then talk to nationwide - we'll still have plenty of breathing room before the razors arrive and are ready for shipment.

Getting the license isn't the problem, those patents expired years ago, it's the tooling which I'm sure Gillette has destroyed years ago. A adjustable TTO razor is many more parts then an injector.
I also would love to see reproductions of the great Gillette razors from the 50s and the 60s. I would be willing to pay a premium price for an improved product. Maybe make them out of stainless steel or thicker plating.:w00t:
