Hi Guys

Having recently started using a brush for shaving, I just purchased (yesterday) the Vie Long Best Badger at my local pharmacist to upgrade from my Vulfix bristle, having used it for the first time this morning I was most impressed, whipped up a great lather in a few short seconds, was great on the face, not to soft or to scratchy and not at all floppy! :thumbup1:

Does anyone else here use a Vie Long brush and what are your thoughts?

Kind regards
NIGEL

Hi,

I am thinking on buying a badger brush, and while looking this morning at the shop, all the shaving brushes were Vie Long.

I don't know much about them, all I know is they are -Made in Spain-.

It would be a good idea if you do an update in a couple weeks to see how is your experience with it. I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Ro

Interesting,
Never heard of this company. Any pictures to show. If I had to guess it is probably a rebranded brush from some of the other manufacturers.

They are a stand alone company based in Spain, have been making shaving brushes since 1940.

The brush I got cost GBP£20.00 (approx $40.00) but when I popped into pharmacist yesterday afternoon they had just got in another brush for GBP£40.00 (approx $80.00) which is a softer Badger hair and has a clear/black perspex handle.

Below is a picture of the brush I picked up, it's a great brush as posted earlier.

Kind regards

Will let you know, but so far the brush has proved to be excellent, but its only day 2 so I will keep you updated.

I dont know what grade of Badger hair they use but I was told it was best badger by the pharmacist.

Very nice looking brush indeed. It seems I guessed wrong about the rebranded part.
BTW any ideas or estimate on the knot size.

Telly posted a link to the manufacturers site but it did not have any info knot size etc.

If by knot size you mean the diameter of the head it's approx 1.5/2" wide.

Sorry but am still a newbie to all of this :blushing:

Some of these brushes look terrific! Quite white tips, and seemingly 2-band style...

I wonder where I can see them in person...

Cheers

Not a problem but knot size I meant diameter of the knot at the base.
You will learn a lot once you Acquisition Disorders   take hold.

Hi Guys

My partner picked up the Vie-Long Horse hair brush as a gift for me yesterday.

It's a bit stiffer than than the Badger brush I have and it takes noticably longer to create a good lather with it, however, its hair seems slightly softer!

BTW they also had another Vie-Long Badger brush in stock, this one cost GBP£49.00 (approx $98.00) came in a presentation box with stand and seemed a lot softer than my Vie Long Badger, I just wish I knew what grade of Badger hair they used (Best, Pure etc). :confused1

Kind regards

Finally I have taken the step forward I bought myself a Badger brush. :001_smile

After thinking a bit about it and given your good impression on the Vie Long, I thought that instead of buying it by Postal order, I could buy it locally and the 10€ that every body charges for the p&p I could better add them towards buying a better brush.

This one comes in a presentation box with a stand, it is 100% Badger and lovely smooth.

It cost me 58.00 € and it was the smoother of this size, there where another two more expensive, but they were also larger.

Today I had a first go with it, after giving it a "first wash" with dog shampoo, as matic says on his video, just to get rid of the Badger funky smell.

My first impression: it is incredibly smooth and builds up lather pretty fast. I am starting to feel the pleasure of shaving.

kind regards,
Ro

It's good to know I'm not the only one who owns a horse hair brush!
I bought mine in Argentina and asked what it was made of. At the time I had no clue about badger.

It's my only brush so I can't compare its texture with anything else, but it takes no time to make lather on my face with either cream I use (Proraso, Florena, Floris)

Interesting... It's the first "brand" that has been added to the Wikipage on shave brush hair grades (http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/index.php/Shave_Brush_Hair_Grades) under a horse hair listing :wink2:.

Here in Spain these brushes are commonly found in drugstores and supermarkets. I own one, but it's pure bristle and I found it too scratchy; also, I think it must have been dyed, because it left a black residue in the mug...

Should I give it another go?

He Emilius,

I also have a pure bristle one, and as you say, it is too scratchy. After joining this forum and reading about the badger ones, I got myself the one shown above: it is great !

In drugstores normally you get the lower quality ones and normally don't have many where to choose from, I got mine from a specialized shop for professional hairdressers, and they had quiet a lot of good quality ones.

I don't regret a single euro. Give it a try!.:001_smile
