What modern razor shaves the most similar to a vintage Tech? I recently picked up my first couple techs, and while I enjoy the shave I get from them, I am not a huge fan of vintage Gillette's. You can call me a blasphemer all you want, I just don't prefer them. What offerings from Merkur and the like would be the closest shave wise, preferably a two piece?

Merkur 34 HD is very close to a Gillette Fat Handled Tech.

The difference, to me, is in the weight - the Merkur is heavier, but it has the same good balance, a nice thick handle with a pattern that gives a good grip.
It is a mild razor but don't get fooled it is more than capable of giving smooth comfortable BBS shaves.

The Mühle R89 is also a good choice, but the handle is longer and a bit more smooth (slippery). It also has a good balance, but the "geometry" of the shave is somewhat different because of the longer handle, and I prefer the shorter handle of the Merkur.

Feather AS. Very similar to tech.

I don't understand the "similar to" questions. Every razor is unique, unless you get an exact modern copy nothing is going to shave just like a Tech.
If the question was "what short handled, 3-piece, closed comb, relatively mild modern razors are there?" you might get some helpful suggestions, but even so you're the modern razor will feel different from the vintage.

Why don't you tell us what you don't like about the tech, as that would make it easier.

I am well aware of the YMMV around these parts but a 34C close to a FH Tech is a new one for me. The Techs are so mild that a little pressure will not harm you while the 34C is a medium aggressive razor. Even the mildest Merkurs (15/23/25/33C and the 41/42N) are still aggressive compared to the Gillette Tech. Due to blade gap, weight and balance the 34C is completely different from the Tech imo.

The closest thing to a Tech is another Tech, followed probably by the Feather AS razor. But that is also a YMMV statement of course.

To me they are close.
You are right though, you can use a little pressure with the Tech without problems, you might not do as well with the 34C, but it has a higher weight so it is not necessary.
When I got the 34C I was actually surprised of how mild and smooth it shaved, and to me they are similar - but not equal. I still prefer the FH Tech over any other DE I've tried.

I don't even understand the question. If you like the Tech so much that you want to find a razor that's just like it, why don't you just use the Tech?

I'm interested in trying a tech, so I'm also curious about what you didn't like about it.

It's not that I don't like the tech, in fact I like it just fine. I found a ball end tech at an antique mall that I used a couple times and gifted it to a friend for his first DE, I bought a Fat Handle Tech from a member here to replace it and I've been shaving with it for the last couple weeks.

What I am interested in is a modern razor that shaves as gentle as a tech. I realize it may not shave EXACTLY the same, but what is the closest? The feather All Stainless seams to get the nod.
