Why is it that when I use some deoderants (Like English Leather) I get a stinging feeling? Is it alumanum?

Any ideas?

My feeling has always been that it takes a while for your pits to adjust to a new product. I've used unscented solids for years, and even when I use a scented solid, sometimes I get a little burn.

But its nowhere near as bad as I remember some deoderant sticks burning me back when I was a teenager.. I've always assumed it was whatever they used for the scents that gave the burning feeling. I haven't used a "stick" in over 15 years at least..

For me, alcohol causes burn (instantaneously), aluminium itch (over time).

Bad of the bad is Tabac regular deo stick or Dior's eau sauvage: pure napalm for me. Just horrible.

Exactly what Frederick said, it may also be the concentration of the salt in the deodorant as well.

It's probably the alcohol.

+1. Definitely not the salt (for me), since I've switched to an alum-based deodorant crystal, which works like a charm.

I have "sensitive" pits and get the burn and sometimes a rash.

For years I have been using the Almay deodorant products without once ever getting a burn or harsh reaction. The day I try something else, is the day the discomfort begins.

I know that some products say that they are hypoallergenic or gentle, but the Almay pit products do their job nicely.

Be well,

Agree completely. I have suggested Almay each time these threads come up.

J I've been using one of these for about 6 months. Much better for you (no aluminium), and it seemed to work pretty well, but I noticed yesterday that it actually now smells of pit! I put it onto my clean pits as usual, but noticed a BO smell, and it turned out it was actually coming from the crystal . I suppose it's built up over time . I'm wondering whether to go back to the non-natural route...

I might add that the Almay products are available without an added scent or have very light scents (if you prefer). Because of this, my wife uses the Almay too, and we don't have to smell like each other!

I used the crystals in the distant past. Both times I used them, the efficacy decreased after a while to the point where I was no longer deodorized.

When I was a teenager I used "Mennen" and that stuff always burned the crap out of my pits. Nerver really knew why. Never had that issue with any other product. I would assume it's the alcohol as well.

I'm using one as well, no pit smell yet  Do you wet the crystal before applying it?

Yes, I wet it first (or just leave my pits wet after my bath).
