The Dorko blades continue to impress - I got a great shave with my Progress - I dialed it open to 3.5 for final touch up with no irritation whatsoever.

Second shave with Ansgar's freeform bowl - a well made product that really helps whip up a great later in seconds. I think its a little on the short side as the lather seems to want to climb the walls of the bowl. The ridges on the bottom make a real difference.

I decided to take as long as I wanted with this particular shave as I didn't need to rush out to work

2 passes on the face (WTG,ATG) and an unprecedented 3 (WTG,ATG,XTG) on the neck(all at a leisurely pace) resulted in the best shave that I've ever had

I am excited that I now have reached a significant critical mass of accessories that I can have different SOTDs!
For today (Monday morning):

Proraso cream whipped up in a bowl

buffing on the throat and chin
No alum block or styptic necessary!

I know all the other creams are more pleasant smelling, and I love trying all the other ones (especially my new L'Occitane Cade soap), but every time I use Proraso, I get an excellent shave, even with a so-so blade (Derbys work for me, but aren't the smoothest - that of course is the Gillette for me, and it is just my luck that they are some of the most expensive!).

First time using the Treet blades. At first, they seemed to be pulling but still taking care of business. This was a 2 pass shave (1 wtg, 1ATG) followed by some small touch up.
Overall, a nice shave but am not overly impressed with the blades...will use the same blade again tomorrow but I don't see this one lasting too long.

The Wild Rose was all that people described...very fresh rose scent (not too sweet)...smelled like fresh rose petals. The scent stayed for a quite a while, too.

I also tried the new burt's bees aftershave balm. Actually pretty nice stuff (though I've only used it once so time will tell, I suppose). The scent is similar to Speick...but with more citrus. At times it reminded me of the scent of lemonade mix (while in powder form)...which was a little synthetic. Like I said, though...time will tell.

Short & Sweet today. Kind of ambivalent about the Merkurs after using about four blades from a sample pack so far. They aren't sharp but for me they are very forgiving and not harsh as many reviewers experience. My shave was very quick and sloppy today. At one point I bumped the razor against my neck (38C :eek: ) and with any other blade I would have been left with a slice or rash or at least some irritation - but nothing with the Merkur. I guess that's good?

First time using Conk soap. The amber has a pleasant smell, not overpowering, just pleasant. Nice and slick, zero irritation. I gotta say the shave with the Conk was pretty impressive, especially for a "three buck puck". Hmmm, have I heard that somewhere else in productland? :biggrin:

I love that Bronner's soap.. I also have the Peppermint.

As for the Fusion, I used one that was sent to me for free, and I agree, I didn't detect much difference between that and the M3. Actually, I've been trying the M3 on and off for the past year, and this last time I got some major irritation on my neck. I've gone back to the 2-blade Atra and the bumps are going away. Maybe the Atra doesn't give quite the close shave that the M3 does, I will say that my face feels much better. I think the "less is more" argument works in my case, maybe someday I will move to even one less blade than the Atra.. :biggrin1:

Went back for a second helping of the QED Wild Rose today. Man oh man what great stuff! My wife thinks it smells exactly like fresh tea rose. I have to admit, I had never heard of a tea rose before...

What doesn't proraso ASB go well with? It seems to magically compliment any scent it is combined with.

FYI...Nancy Boy has Tea Rose as a scent for their Body Bars. If you haven't tried them I would definitely place an order. Their Signature, Invigorating and Spa scents are also very nice.

Received the DUKE yesterday.... Soaped it up with TABAC and had a light shave after a horrid Bic Metal/Proraso in the can morning shave Wed PM. The Simpson DUKE 3 is no better soap brush than my Simpson Chubby 1 in Super, but it is a fine brush ( I can't imagine a smaller handle would be comfortable for me). It did a nice job with the 1805 who's scent I tried not to mask by using Em's Unscented Balm afterwards. A very nice all purpose brush in my opinion.

Great first shave with the New - first open-combed razor.

Haven't used the Royall Musk in a while. I used to not care for this scent but I'm liking it now. Maybe it's that I'm another year older and drifting towards a preference to "old man scents". :eek: Regardless the scent lasts thoughout the day for me. comments: I shaved last night, so I wasn't going to shave this morning, but I changed my mind at the last minute...hehe. While enjoyable, I think I get better results when my beard is slightly longer. Shaving this morning, I really didn't feel like I was chopping that many hairs. But, my face still feels great, esp. since I switched from the M3 back to the Atra. M3 + my neck = owie.

Many years ago, as a matter of necessity, I used a straight. I remember taking it to the neighborhood barber for weekly maintenance. Rather inexpensive at the time. If I can recal,l .10 or .15 for hone/pasting/polishing.. I was a bit steadier of hand and keener of eye then..:crying:

My son (1 1/2) and daughter (3 1/2) have been poking in on me during my shaves these days with increasing frequency. Today it was my son. I hand him a charged brush & a lathering bowl and let him go to town. Sometimes this gets a little out of hand and is not what I would call a relaxing shave but I do cherish the moments.

And yes I may be skimping a bit by handing the kids the Vulfix but obviously I'm not skimping on the product I let them play around with. :thumbup1:

Both of these are truly nice "Art deco" Treasures. A near Mint Tuckaway in Silver (tone...Plate...) is a handsome CLASSY razor for daily use or travel. Achim (mr razor) had one in inventory once I almost bought..It was a Made in England Silver Tuckaway that was engraved with a London Men's Store name and date of 1920 something I believe...Burton something..or could have been a Christmas Gift to employees or good customers... Alas it is now gone from his "stash"....

Been trying the straights on and off. This razor is from the razor special @ VintageBlades a month or two ago. This was my first time actually using the razor as I have been using wapis so far. I would have to say this is the best shave so far, not due to the sharpness but most likely to a more balanced razor, the round point (no nicks near my sideburns), and/or the larger size (6/8 vs a 9/16).

The QED B&B soap is a real treat with all of the layered scents. In every breath it seemed I picked up a different component of the soap. Very Nice!

As Johnnie Gold (Bob) stated, the CF Lime SC acts more like a soap because of the very dense nature of the product. The scent was outstanding.... the lather was a challenge because I think the water/cream ratio I attempted was less than a good mix. I will have to adjust it next time as the shave was a bit underwhelming latherwise. I might use the Simpson Chubby 1 in Super as a brush next time as the Tulip didn't seem to be achieving the explosive lather I was expecting. As a dedicated face latherer, maybe the CH1 will do the trick next time. All in all a "good" shave, just not great. I might have hyped up my expectations of the Castle Forbes in my mind as well. In conclusion, the lather I produced was not on par with T&H creams or T&H soap that I use most frequently. All in all, I got an EXCELLENT deal on the cream from Valdez at $20.00 shipped I really can't complain at all.

As for the Fusion, I used one that was sent to me for free, and I agree, I didn't detect much difference between that and the M3. Actually, I've been trying the M3 on and off for the past year, and this last time I got some major irritation on my neck. I've gone back to the 2-blade Atra and the bumps are going away. Maybe the Atra doesn't give quite the close shave that the M3 does, I will say that my face feels much better. I think the "less is more" argument works in my case, maybe someday I will move to even one less blade than the Atra.. :biggrin1:

I'm one of the guys making sure sure that King Gillette's relatives keep enjoying the finer things in life: I dutifully moved from their Good News disposables to the two-bladed Sensor just as it hit the market, moving through the Sensor variants, the Mach 3 and its adaptations, then straight into the Fusion last year. But I will not, under any circumstances, shave with anything that requires AA batteries :cool:

But please keep writing, Mason: With any luck, you can help me climb back down to the Sensor cartridges. These days, you can find them for about a buck and a quarter each, and as I recall, the Sensor stayed keen for more than the half-dozen-or-so shaves I've managed with Fusions :rolleyes:

You know, I've never used a Sensor. Are those the ones where the blades have some "give" to them, to ride your face better?

I get about a week's worth of shaves out of an Atra cartridge. Actually, I've found that I get about the same useage out of an Atra vs. the Mach 3. I've only used one Fusion cartrige, used it about 10 or so times.

Wal-mart has the Personna Atra blades usually for about $2 to $3 for 10. The Gillette Atra cartriges are usually about a buck each ($10 for a 10 pack), so I haven't bought their brand in years.

Right now I'm working on trying to find the right combination of prep/soap/cream for getting the best shave with the equipment I have.. but am also considering trying an Injector. I can't afford to shave with the M3 more than once or twice a year.. just not worth it.
