I was recently PIF'ed (thanks bkfist!) a container of RazoRock Mughetto di Bologna, one of their tallow shaving soaps. While I've been participating in the 3017 thread and attempting to use up a container of Tabac, recent circumstances (my need to take a shower before shaving + my tub developing a crack which was epoxy'ed and is now drying + shower at the apartment gym) allowed me to try out my latest acquisition.
I've used a number of Italian products over the years - a full tube of Proraso, plus a bunch of Cella and some RazoRock XXX. I hadn't tried the Artisan line before.
This stuff is really good.
Fantastic lather. I used a Semogue 620 and got something that was very good, especially at this price point. Any better and you're looking at MdC.
The scent is nice - "lily of the valley", floral but not too much. You can still smell it a bit after the shave but it doesn't really linger.
Very protective and cushioning - I was using a pretty aggressive razor for me (a Gibbs OC) and brought along the styptic pencil expecting a few weepers. Nothing.
My skin feels fantastic. This is a moisturizing soap. Or maybe it's just the tallow :001_smile
Overall I'm really impressed with this soap. I think it is better than Cella and XXX. :thumbup1:

I have the Boston Tea artisan soap and agree with you that these are excellent, excellent soaps.
I have the tallow-free Muguet de France, and the slickness and fragrance are my favorite of any of my soaps or creams.

Can someone tell me about the scent of Caprician Lemon? I've used the XXX, is it similiar? Thanks

To my nose, the Caprician Lemon is not similar to XXX. The lemon fragrance is a bit on the industrial/cleanser side, close to another Canadian classic: JM Frasers (orginal).

Insomniac, I could not agree more! You hit most of my favorites, but the RazoRock Artisan line, Mughetto di Bologna is my hands-down favorite lather product.
Current rotation consists of:
RR Mughetto di Bologna
QCS Green Irish Tweed
Tabac
Proraso cream
TOBS Rose cream
There are a couple others I like a lot, but these five are permanently stocked. The RazoRock is king of that hill. Well, maybe tied with the QCS, it's a tough choice.

My tub of Boston Tea Party was just delivered yesterday, so this morning was my first go with the Artisan line as well. I used my Omega 10275, and face lathered with what I think is Marco's Method. WOW. Ridiculous amounts of great lather. I didn't even load for 10 seconds, and I bet I had enough lather for 4 passes. Just awesome stuff.
Side note - I'm not ecstatic about the scent (or lack thereof). I know the Boston Tea Party is pretty non-offensive, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. My fault. Kinda wish I would've gone for something with a little more kick to the nostrils.

Yes, it's truly fantastic stuff. Even the Italian Master Barbers who did test these soaps before they were introduced on the market were highly impressed.

Although I like Razorock Classic and XXX, the artisan labeled chianti lavender always leaves me flat. It's scent is barely perceptible to me and its lathering is nothing special. It's mediocre performance has kept me from trying other variants of the artisan line.
Current rotation consists of:
RR Mughetto di Bologna
QCS Green Irish Tweed
Tabac
Proraso cream
TOBS Rose cream
What do you use for the rest of the week?

Hehehehe. Actually, Ouch, I'm kinda the anti-SAD. For some reason I get uncomfortable with too many products around. I like to keep it pared down. I don't know why.
I only have one DE razor and one straight, too (just playing with the straight so far). And I only use one blade now, for the most part. Gillette blacks. I'm kinda odd around here, less is more for me.
I did get reacquainted with TOBS Avocado this morning, though. It's in my home shave den and I'm back there for a couple weeks.

I'm very close to declaring King Louis as the only soap I need. It's that good!I have to try the Artisan tallow soaps before I do though.

I have a crap-ton of soaps/creams in my possession, but have lately only been using Cella, XXX and Chianti Lavender. I could easily see myself being satisfied with these hard creams ONLY. Personally, I think Cella barely edges out RazoRock, but the XXX and Lavender are still outstanding products.
Cella - There's nothing to not like about Cella.
XXX - Again, just barely under Cella in terms of shaveability. The scent is awesome, though, especially if you like Acqua di Parma.
Chianti Lavender - If you're a lavender fiend, you'd probably be more satisfied with something like Castle Forbes. Subdued. Pleasant, but subdued. Shaveability is about the same as XXX. A really nice product in it's own right, I just prefer the above two.
Seems pretty difficult to go wrong with any RazoRock products provided your skin agrees with them. I'm still waiting to hear more reviews on the spray aftershaves and EdTs he's offering before taking the plunge.
