Well after seeing these on a local internet classifieds site, I bought them.
Paid too much, probably. (Am jealous of you Yanks, these things are so much more common and cheaper over there).

Anyway I wanted them so there you go.

I know one is a Valet Autostrop (no idea what age) and one a Gillette. Aside from that, very little.

Here are the pics of what I bought - dazzle me with your knowledge people !

I'm not an expert on the Valet but the Gillette NEW long comb is a wonderful razor. It's pretty smooth for an open-comb. Don't feel bad for your purchase, better items eventually find their way to you.

The Gillette looks like a Ball Handled New, I can't see the end well enough to say whether it is a short or long comb. It has been said that razor technology could have stopped right there with no great loss. It is circa 1930 or so. http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/Gillette_NEW_Ball_Handle;

The Auto Strop I don't know much about. They take a proprietary blade, which you sharpen and re-use. That's about all I know about them.

Thanks. There's actually a fair bit about auto strops on these B&B forums but I'm not sure what age mine is - would be interested.

Krona - I don't feel bad about it, I like them. I intend to shave with these I'm not one into collecting for collecting's sake.

I'm not sure if you have discovered it yet, but Feather makes a blade almost specifically for the Autostrop. This is the only place I've found it available. http://www.razorbladesandmore.com/content/feather-single-edge-blades-5pcs

I would guess that based on the Bakelite case and more intricate looking head this is a later model, but I'm certainly no expert.

I'd hear Feather made blades but wasn't sure where to get them. Cheers.

Anyway I had a shave with the Gillette after cleaning it up a bit.
Definitely nowhere as nice as my Merkur, but could well be that I need more practice.
Definitely need to hold it at a different angle compared to the Merkur.

I can see that the long comb on the Gillette should make it a good choice when the beard eventually comes off. __________________

The feather blades will not work well in that version of the autostrop. The pins on the razor do not line up with the cut-outs on the blades.

I was going to swear but not sure of rules for that on this forum so I shall instead say oh my goodness how annoying Ive just paid for cost and shipping of 5 packs of blades.... aaarrrgrghhhh. Sigh.

Oh well I suppose they'll work in something.....

What blades DO work in that version I have ?
