I recently posted questions about the Gillette blades in the red box, made in Brazil. It seems there is not much info about them, and I don't even know if they are available here. My sister brought me two packs from Mexico City, where she resides.

Here is my review:

I normally shave twice per day, but for this review I reduced my shaves to evening only. It was a great sacrifice :001_tongu but I got through it ok.

Razor: Yuma

Shave soap: VDH Classic

Brush: EJ Best Badger

Pre-shave oil: Clarins Shave Ease

Aftershave: Thayers Aloe Formula

Post-shave: Arko C Classic Cream

Passes: 3, WTG, XTG, ATG

My shaves always follow a hot shower. In the shower I apply African Black Soap to my face to cleanse and rinse prior to exiting shower. I follow this by application of hot towels for 60 seconds to be certain beard growth is soften and properly prepared for the shave.

FIRST SHAVE: Blade glides through stubble, mowing down growth in WTG pass. After XTG pass, I could have stopped, but there were some places that needed to be touched up. Did ATG pass and was left with BBS. No irritation.

SECOND SHAVE: Blade continued the performance of first shave. Still a comfortable shaving experience, Also left with a BBS.

THIRD SHAVE: Normally on my third shave with Astra, toward the end I will get some minor pulling. Shark blades only last me two shaves before this happens. Derby similar to Astra. The Gillette 'red' did not seem to differ from the first two shaves. With the exception of having to do some touch-ups on my jaw line with buffering, I still got a BBS.

FOURTH SHAVE: Normally I discard a blade after three shaves regardless of the quality of shave number three. I decided to continue to shave with this blade to see where it would go. WTG pass was the same as the first three shaves, as was the XTG pass. ATG had minor pulling on jaw line. No weepers, no irritation. DFS achieved.

Due to the pulling on the final shave, I chickened out. For me, four good shaves out of a blade does not come around much. My beard has the quality of oat straw, so it is very rough on blades.

The price of these blades was 20 Pesos per pack. That is around 40 cents each.

I would like to add these to my blade reserve if anyone has a source of them in the USA. I suppose I could just suffer and take a trip to Mexico City, right?

I hope the review was helpful!

Regards,

Paul

20 pesos is like $1.50-2.00 US. My parents have house in Mexicali,Baja. I'm going to give them a call and see if they can find some. Curiosity shaved my face... I mean killed the cat.

These were PIF'd to a fair number of reviewers....their thoughts are posted in the Safety Razor forum.

I was one of the lucky beneficiaries. I, too, think these are pretty nice blades. Razor Blades and More is looking into adding them to the line-up, so sometime soon they might be readily available.
