View Full Version : Buy/Sell/Trade "Bump" Rule -- Suggestion

I'd like to suggest an addendum to the Buy/Sell/Trade forum rules:
No bumping without a price reduction.
Generally, threads remain on the front page for about a day or so. I think our traffic is high enough such that the exposure is pretty great, and if someone hasn't snapped it up in that time, a price reduction, rather than a simple "bump" would facilitate more rapid sales of the more common items, as well as promote a "no-profiteering" approach for member-to-member sales.
Thoughts?
As we grow, I see the B/S/T forum as an evolving issue and I'm personally willing to assist in any capacity.

I personally don't like bumping just to bump.
The persons responsible for bumping should be bumped.
I think a bump a week is ok, if you don't sell it by 2 weeks then you should,
A; Lower the price anyway or B; Take it off the market.

I think it has been working quite well as it is ....... why 'fix' it ?

The policy for bumps is quite clear.
One bump per day............no mention of price reduction in the policy.
Don't tinker with something that works well!

I'm not a high volume guy either buying or selling, but I've done both. I agree that the current policy is quite fair and effective - a bump a day is fine. People looking for what you are selling are gonna look deeper than one page anyway - I know I do. Requiring a reduction would ultimately just lead to more work for the mods - they probably have better things to do than making sure everyone is dropping their price prior to bumping. I think as a group we police ourselves pretty well.

I think current policy is good and should be left as is.

I am sorry but you have violated the rules of one bump per day.
Liege did it first, I am sorry android but your privileges have been revoked.:001_tt2:

Yeah, a 'bumpity' counts as a bump too, so even without Liege's first bump, Android put himself over the limit all by himself!!

Pat,
Don't knock yourself too hard. I think it’s great that you offered up an idea for an improvement. Give yourself a huzzah for taking some initiative and not a ding that it didn't get enough traction.

Pat,
Great suggestion, but maybe a bit time consuming for the mods to try to keep up with.

Sorry Pat, I've got to disagree with you on this one. No member should be forced to drop the price the bring up their post. It isn't practical, it's not like every member reads over post anyway. Sorry but there's no way I can vote for this. Our current system isn't being abused. It isn't broke and I don't feel we need to fix it in this matter.
Thanks though

Don't be embarrassed. This post got a lot of responses, it's only the truly ridiculous that don't get any.
