I'm interested in learning more about shaving mugs in general & more specificaly about the Victorian Mug that has a spout on the side & usually the top holds a soap puck & has 3 holes that drain water down into the lower chamber.

I'm not sure how this is all supposed to work nor whether it actually does work & what, if any, benefits there are.

I don't seem to be able to find much info/advice about them or just mugs in general.

I'm currently using an old pottery mug to make lather & it works fine but I was told wet shaving would save me money but so far I've spent quite a bit so I thought.....what the hell....might as well spend some more if it'll give me better shaves or even just make me look cool.

Your advice, comments, help or just general BS are more than welcome.

Be well.

Welcome to the board and feel free to ask many questions. I believe the holes are for hot water to keep your lather warm.

I think that what you're describing is something like this....

The soap puck sits in the top section and the brush soaks in the spout. When you are ready to shave, you lod the puck from the soap and then proceed to build lather on your face.

This is different from modern scuttles, like this...

in which you use your already loaded brush (or put a dollop of cream in the bottom of the scuttle) to build you lather in.

Any old bowl or mug (even the one which your nose is attached to!) can be used to build great lather as long as you have room to swirl your brush around.

Yes, rockviper, that's exactly what I am talking about.

Thank you very much for the description of how it works.....pretty simple.

I'll probably buy one if I can find a deal on one of the very old ones......just to have it.

Be well.
