Hello have some questions.

Hello everyone I'm brand new to wet shaving. I ordered an Edwin Jagger de89 barleY, alum and blade sampler. But I am now debating what brush to get and I don't have much money to spend on one. Do you guys think the Truefitt and Hill brus is any good? I like it because it comes with a sampler pack here is the link http://www.truefittandhill.com/detail_11113__37.html it is a pure badger for $30 after discount and shipping included.

You might end up regretting a pure badger brush. For the same money or less, you could get a quality boar like an Omega 10066 or even a Semogue. You can still get the T&H sampler, if you like.

First off, are you in the states?
If so, you can get a VDH (Van Der Hagen) Boar Brush for about $8 and a puck of VDH shave soap for another $1.50 or so. The DE89 is a good razor, I have one myself and enjoy it very much.
You can pick up the sampler pack and it would get you started as well. You cannot go wrong no matter what you get right now to get started.vJust don't go out and buy yourself a $200 brush or razor until you get a chance to develop some type of technique. Once you do develop it, you will be able to make more of a decision of what you want to try or what direction to move into next.

I am also new to wet shaving. I got a cheap $4.50 brush from sally beauty supply used it a few times thought it was good . Then my wife surprised me for Valentine day with a art of shaving travel kit that came with a badger brush. What a difference between brushes. The aos brush is so much better.

Keep in mind that your brush gets better the more you use it.

Thanks for the great responses I'm now intrigued after reading great reviews for those inexpensive board brushes does anyone know where I can get one in canada? In particular the suggested omega 1066. I also have the option of ordering it online and having it shipped to an American address which I do quite regularly because I live in British Columbia and the border is 15 minutes away.

First-off, Welcome!

I'd have to agree with Matt, focus on the brush. I've tried a couple different boar, a synthetic, a pure badger, and a best/super badger (haven't gotten to silvertip...yet). I'd recommend a best/super from Edwin Jagger. They're around 35-40 usd (with stand), and I've found them to be the best compromise of feel/exfoliation and softness.

Also, congrats on the Barley. Got mine a few days ago and I keep looking for excuses and opportunities to shave daily.

To start any brush will do, your gona end up with 2 at least, I have a badger (Taylor's) and a Boar (omega) both work well.

I have the AOS travel brush (I use for travel) and the bigger AOS for every day... it was somewhere around $40..... a real nice brush for sure. I don't know who makes them for AOS, but, yes, they are some nice brushes.

I've got two brushes, both from aceshaving on ebay. It's a Chinese seller with very nice badger and boar brushes with crazy low prices. I've got a best badger for creams and a black badger which is a little coarser for soaps. I can't recommend them enough. I've got nothing to do with the seller, they're just the best bang for the buck badger brushes I've found.
