Hello everyone,

My name is Nick, I'm 25, and I have only been wet shaving for little over a month. First off, I would like to thank all of the current members for the plethora of information available on the site! I got into DE shaving completely by accident, as my inquisitive on-line wandering led me to a post on a random blog on the benefits of wet shaving. I have thick curly hair, and a very thick, quick growing beard. I have been shaving with mach-3 style razors forever, and while effective and fast, I have always struggled with massive amounts of ingrown hairs and razor bumps. I had always assumed that this was just one of the side effects of having a thick beard, and there was no way around it. Then I stumbled across that blog post and my research began.

After extensive reading and research (much of which happened on this site) I decided that this was the change I needed. I spoke with my folks about it as we headed into the holidays, and received lots of very cool support. Over the holidays I received my great grandfather's black handled Gillette Superspeed (which was cool because he is who I am named for) a high end brush that my dad bought for my Gpa a decade ago while in London, and a sampler pack of blades. I have read extensively and feel I'm doing all the right things I can as a newbie (post shower shaving soap lather in a warmed ceramic bowl, 3 pass shave, warm then cold rinse followed by an alum block pass, clean up, witch hazel splash) and I love it! I have never really gone out of my way to take care of my skin before, and I have found I thoroughly enjoy the process, the reduction in razor burn/ingrowns and great feeling my face has after all the treatment. I have finally figured out all the angles and whatnot of the process, but am struggling with overcoming some of the existing razor bumps (from before wet shaving) that keep getting busted open occasionally.

Again, as a newbie, thank you to everyone on here! You have all been great in getting someone going, and I look forward to continuing to learn, and eventually help other new members to experience the joy, and benefits of wet shaving!

Hey there! Welcome! I'm new to the forum, but, not new to wet shaving... Enjoy your Grandfathers gear, it will last your whole life time too. - Teach your friends how to use DE's. and don't forget to learn about your razor bank, if you haven't done so already.

Welcome to B&B. Sounds like a pretty nice starter setup there. I'm sure it's fun being able shave with the same razor your grandfather used.

Welcome to B&B Nick. Have you tried using the witch hazel before the alum block to help clear up the razor bumps? I only ask because the witch hazel is a mild astringent and may help before you close the wound with the alum block.
