Hi all:

Just a short thank you to Tony and his daughter at The Golden Nib (TGN). I ordered 4 new knots Wednesday evening to set in four vintage handles I had prepared. They arrived in Friday's mail, safe and sound. Nice work!

But wait, how did these two bottles of ink get in here . . . :001_tt2: Enjoy your shaves.

I think we need pics of the finished products...

I agree. Tony takes such great care of all of his customers. He has never failed to impress me! He should teach others what customer service is all about.

Since I'm always quick to add to a similar post, "Without pics it never happened," my camera is recharging even as we type. :001_rolle I'll try to get pics up by tomorrow evening. Thanks for the reminder.

Hi Folks:

The link below seems to be the only way I am able to post a picture of the brushes I recently restored with TGN knots on B&B. I hope it works for you.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/67126616@N05/?saved=1

1. The white handle is an Ever-Ready with a 20mm Finest, set at approximately 47mm

2. The white over red handle is an unknown brand with a 22mm Silvertip set at approximately 50mm

3. The black over butterscotch handle is a Bristle-Tite with a 22mm Silvertip set at approximately 50mm

4. The all butterscotch handle is an unknown brand with a 18mm Finest set at approximately 47mm

My first restores were set very low as I face lather exclusively. I set these higher to experience the bloom. So far I am not disappointed. Care to guess which one was used last night? I think when it is in full bloom it may resemble a Portabello mushroom!

For those of you who have not given brush restores a try, go for it. I am not the most handy person in the world and I really enjoyed this process and benefited greatly from reading about the experiences of our members. I also ended up with some affordable brushes to rotate with my shaves.

Comments and/or critiques on my second effort at brush restoration are more than welcome. Enjoy!

Yes, TGN is an excellent knot source. I bought an extra stuffed finest knot from Tony a year ago for a lucite restore :001_wub: and it's been my daily brush ever since.

FYI it is the golden nib ;) tony is unreal. His female counterpart is equal amazement in communication and service. I've never been disappointed in a TGN knot. TGN has been the reason I've never tried a Simpson brush.

Oh and their $6.95 24mm boar knots are unreal, I highly encourage them!

that's what i put in one of my restores...still working it in, but it's a nice dense, scrubby knot...and for $7, you can't go wrong, but if you do, you are only out $7

I agree, I totally found my $7 boar 24mm TGN knot a super soft/scrubby knot that shed like crazy then found its sweet spot. It's been my premier brush for MWF. Using it on MWF provides a lush, thick lather but not so thick it is hard to work with.
