Hey guys.
I think I might be getting hooked on buying razors. This is very grave, because I am already hooked on some other things. I can't save any money. I feel bad about myself. I need to sort things out before it's too late. I am trying to kill the razor issue while it is still in it's early stages, and I am pretty sure now I have found the right strategy and will succeed. What I had in mind is having 3 razors - open comb, adjustable, and closed comb. Then I have to stop. So I must choose wisely. I think I done good with the open comb and the adjustable. Now the closed comb. I don't want to buy the really expensive ones, so I decided to buy just a really decent quality razor which gives a great value for money. I have my eyes set on the Weber razor (with the black DLC head). Is it a wise choice? Is it a keeper? One important thing I want to know how does it compare in it's aggressiveness to the common EJ/Muhle/Merkur closed comb razors.
Thanks.

Oh, lol, someone just bumped an interesting old sticky about this razor... :)

If you don't mind my asking, what open comb and what adjustable razor did you choose? What type of razor do you enjoy? Do you like an aggressive razor or a mild razor?

If you answer these questions, it will be easier for us to help you pick a safety bar razor.

Good luck with that! I keep deciding that I'm not getting anymore razors. Doesn't seem to work.... I have...9 razors now, not counting straights. Slim, Fat-boy, Black-handle SS, 40s SS, Old Type Open-Comb, Red-tip SS, Fat-handled Tech, a Pakistani BodyToolz DE, and a GEM SE. I think that's everything. But I keep seeing others I'd like to try - a Flair tip SS, Blue tip SS, and a Weber Stainless.

Just a correction in the wording, a closed comb doesn't exists. You can get a slant, open comb or Safety Bar.

Or that thing that's a lot like a comb, but closed on both ends. I think it's called a safety grate. (not to be confused with one of those ridged safety bars)

The open comb I have is 2010 Muhle R41 (not the new one, but the previous).
The adjustable - Gillette Slim Adjustable.
I guess I am somewhere in the middle between aggressive/mild, with some tendency towards the aggressive side, although I'm not quite sure about that.

In that case, how about a Red Tip Superspeed? Might be perfect for you. Another option would be the Merkur HD. My preference would be for the Red Tip. Probably shaves about like the Slim on 4 or 5.

Thanks for the tip, it should be a nice razor, but I would of preferred not a silo-door one, but a three piece razor or something...

You cannot go wrong with an Edwin Jagger DE89 or one of its variants (same head, different handle).

Open comb - Gillette New or Gem OC Micromatic.
Adjustable - Fat Boy or Slim, depending on your preference for weight and balance specifics
Safety Bar - Fat-Handle Tech

Easy. Merkur HD. Function over form. (And the form ain't bad, either.)
