My first shave with an injector was probably 4-5 months ago, and I honestly cant remember what I thought of it, nor why I stopped using it for such a long time. Well, I used it again just recently, and it was a very gentle, comfortable shave. It was a type J, with Schick blades I bought from the local grocery store. It is a 7 pack of blades for roughly $6. Can I attribute the gentle, comfortable shave to the fact that this razor is somewhat mild, or is it just inherent with injector razors? It also appears that the I type has the same head on it. Would it be the same shave as the J type? I must say I love the shave I get with this razor.

IMHO the type I and J were the best designed heads of the injector family. They had the perfect level of aggression coupled with the smoothness making it a great combo. I am a big fan of the aggressive Type E and G injectors, but I find that they are not as forgiving and smooth compared to the I and J. I have some later models like the L and N and they are a bit too mild for my taste. So when I compare the aggressive Type E's and G's along with the very mild L's and N's, the Type I and J is a perfect blend in between the two spectrum's.

I bought an injector a few months ago and sold it quickly because I didn't care for the shave. Bought one off the bay and received it yesterday. I now have 3 more on the way from the bay.

Only thing I can add to Sledgehammer39s response is that the Chinese made Schicks are fantastic blades.

I would love to give the E and G types a try as well. Is there anything to watch out for on injector razor purchases? Like a common area of wear?

+1 I knew I forgot to mention something. I find that the Chinese Schick's are very smooth and efficient.

I will just echo what Sledgehammer39 and Hoosier Trooper said. The Chinese made Schick blades give me the overall best shave. All I can comment on is the E3 and the G1's that I have and they give a fantastic shave. Three passes everyday with any of these. I have bid on several later models but they always sell for more than I'm willing to give.

Yeah. I keep hoping for a reasonably priced adjustable. I'm also jonesing for a PAL injector. The all stainless steel one. One of the prettiest injector razors ever made.
When I started shaving in 1960, my first razor was a Schick injector that had belonged to my uncle. It was a cream colored handle in a red case with a clear cover. My uncle had passed away in 1951, so it may have been a G type, but i don't know. Don't know what happened to that razor, but am interested in getting another one and trying it for old times sake. Have been shaving with some GEM SEs for a month or so now and find them to be fantastic shavers.
Can someone provide a website or link to help id the vintage Schick injectors. Have read about the differences between the E and G, but what does the number after the letter mean?

Check out this (http://web.archive.org/web/20071207223446/www.geocities.com/safetyrazors/feature.htm) site. Just scroll down to the injector section.

This one has a lot of injector info: http://renaldo.us/SchickRazors.html
Thanks for the links guys. From fist glance, believe that I will be looking for a G1 in a red case with a clear cover.

G1 is probably the most common injector razor on eBay. You shouldn't have any problem finding one.
WARNING!! There's a good chance that any razor you buy will still have a blade in it. Be careful before cleaning it.
