:001_unsur Hello to all. My question is; Is there any difference in the handle design of the SS's that were sold as the medium weight and regular SS? You had the light bluetip, Medium silvertip, heavy redtip. Is the meduim the same SS that was sold during the 50's and marketed as the medium when the colored tto's came out? Thanks.:

It deals with blade exposure and aggressiveness. Blue is the least aggressive and red is the most aggressive.

Yes, I understand that part. I guess my question is not getting to the point. Is any silver tip tto ss considered medium aggressive during this time?

Red = Aggressive, Black = moderate, Blue = mild, Silver = medium/moderate.
Gillette was using an advertising campaign (after I did some research) to sell razors to individuals with specific beard thickness/coarsness and surprisingly, they were right on ( I own all three). The Silver Tip was your Generic All Purpose Razor and generally a mild to moderate shaver.
Enjoy your shave... :biggrin:

A couple of points - first, the key difference between the blue, black and red tips is the weight of the head and that's according to the commercial Gillette ran for these razors.
Sec, as far as a more aggressive SS, I have a British flare-tip that has more weight at the head and is a little more aggressive than the standard silvertip razors I've used.

I find this interesting. I just shaved with a Silver Tip Super-Speed (L2) and noticed that it is a moderate-to-aggressive shaver. Definitely a more aggressive shave than my Flare Tip Rocket (definition of a forgiving razor). After using a Fatboy earlier this week, I would compare the Silver Tip to #4 on a Fatboy, which I would also compare to somewhere between #4 and #5 on a Slim. Yes this still fits the half way point on these, but honestly I don't know many who even use them on #9. I bet a Red Tip is probably closer to a #6 or #7 at most on a Fatboy. So I would say a Silver Tip is on the aggressive side of the moderate scale.
I have to say it was a great shave though. With 3 usual passes and a tiny bit of clean up on the neck I was almost BBS everwhere, just one little stubble area under my chin on my neck.
