I have just had my first shave with a safety razor, with mixed results. I used:

Merkur 38C with included blade
Aramis shaving soap
Cheap synthetic brush

On my cheeks it went quite well, but I have trouble with my chin and neck area. In my neck I have quite a few weepers.

All in all the shave was not that close, but I feel that apart from the neck area I could have gone closer.

I had not shaved for a couple of days beforehand, maybe that was causing part of the troubles I had.

Just reporting my findings and checkin in on the forum

Welcome!

There's a great shaving supply store in the Netherlands you should check out if you're ever looking for something - they carry a great range of products at good prices:

Thank you, they are the shop I ordered my razor from, and I intend to use them again in the future. I also found a shop in Belgium that I think is quite good:

But I have not ordered from them yet.

Hello Eindhovenaar (semi-Belgian anyway... )

Welcome to B&B. Please bear in mind that your skin will adjust to these new techniques and products. And most important of all, your shaves and skin will improve. Do a search on you tube for the mantic59 instruction videos. They are a great help.

Hello Edwin. Good to see more Dutchies joining!

I'm sure your shaves will improve with your technique. You might also want to order a sample pack of blades, so you can try out various kinds of DE blades and see what they feel like.

Welcome to B&B from a fellow Dutchie! It is important to remember that when using a DE the idea is to reduce the stubble with every pass. For me that means that I need more passes to get a closer shave if I have not shaved for a few days. I'd also like to suggest that, especially the first few weeks, you focus on learning techniques and such before you aim at really close shaves. As techniques improve the shaves will become better as well.

Make sure to read through the FAQ and stickies and to look at Mantic's video's if you already haven't. There is a lot of information around and don't hesitate to ask questions!

Welcome, as I can now attest to, investing in some good tools, like soaps and creams, the shaves will get much better.

But technique is the best tool around.

Keep the faith!
