Hey,
I'm using open comb Muhle R41 (2010-2011 model) and am generally happy with it. For some time I've been entertaining the idea of diversifying and trying something new. I've set my eyes on Bob's Bull Mastiff open comb New Head with short combs (I think that's how it's called). Can anyone tell me about his experience with this razor, how it compares to Muhle, or what other razors by Bob I should take a look at (open comb)?
Thanks.

The BRW Bull Mastiff is a vintage, nickel-replated Gillette NEW head with a nickel-plated, solid brass handle made by BRW. You can get the handle in several different lengths, and with several different knobs at the end. All the knobs have a magnet inset, which is handy for disposing of used blades. I have a standard-length Bull Mastiff Deluxe handle, with a flared knob. I use it with various razor heads of my own: NEW Deluxe, Mühle R89, Stahly, etc.
The handle is compatible with most modern and vintage heads. You could probably use it with your R41oc head, for example. But you may want to tell Bob exactly which heads you might be using, in case he needs to add a deeper countersink or make other changes to the standard design. He can also do handles in other materials and has several other handle designs.
I have not used the R41oc, but based on the specifications and on reports here I would expect the Bull Mastiff to feel much heavier and to shave a little more aggressively. It is not as aggressive as an R41tc or a Joris or Fa Tip, which may be good or bad depending on your taste. The quality is excellent, and Bob stands behind his work.
