I know there are a few threads here and there that'll pop up about a custom blade bank one of our crafty members has put together. Personally I don't feel like searching all afternoon! I'm finally in need of a new blade bank, and I bet many others could use a new one or a better one.
So please post pics and any other info or tutorial steps of your custom blade banks!

Here's mine. I bought it for $.50 in a thrift shop.

Here's mine. Cost me around around $9 for a four-pack of them. http://badgerandblade.com/gallery/files/3/5/5/4/2/dscn2124_thumb.jpg (http://badgerandblade.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=32367)
As a bonus, each blade bank came filled with delicious ale. Every blade I've used since August 2011 has been deposited here, and it's perhaps three quarters empty as of this post.

Mine cost about $11 initially, and took 4 months to clean out. It's an empty tin of pipe tobacco for those who aren't sure.

59 cents! I put the hole on the side so they will slide in parallel to the direction they will end up laying. I figure that will let me use it longer before I can't fit any more in there.

Technically speaking, stout is a variety of ale, if one is distinguishing ales from lagers. See here (http://beer.about.com/od/beerstyles/a/BeerStyles101.htm). But yes, lest I impugn my beer merchant's good name, the cans were undoubtedly filled with stout. Delicious stout. :biggrin1:

Picked this up at an estate sale. I particularly like the screw lock feeature. Tightens real good. Measures around 14" H and 5" circumference. It'll be awhile before this is filled up!

A beer can, still closed at the top.
Sliced a opening at the bottom with my Ontario RAD knife, poured it out into a glass and drank it.
The beer is "Grolsch Kanon (Cannon)".
It is pretty strong for a beer; 11,6%
I chose it because I genuinely like the beer, but it is also a good looking can.
Not only are the letters in shining silver, they also have depth, giving it a cool look from all angles.

Don't really have one yet, but this seems like a great idea!

I have one tin stored away for 3 years now, 2 to go still so it's not going to be empty FVF tin, but something similar. Thanks for the idea! :001_smile

I've got a 50g tin of Kingfisher that I'm planning on doing this with. Saw it over on the pipe smoking forum I frequent.
Now only if I had time to smoke more and VAs didn't give me the jitters I might be able to finish the tin one day.

Stocking stuffer from a few years ago, had a pair of boxers inside, supposed to be a change bank. Didnt even have to cut a slot, just slapped the "custom made" warning on!

Mine's an evaporated milk can, washed out and with a slot dremmeled in the side. No curious kiddies can open it, though I guess the 8 year old could fit his pinkie into one of the holes if he was feeling dumb enough.

You said it, 'monkey. :001_smile Some older houses were constructed with a purpose-built blade slot in the medicine cabinet, so that the occupants could dispose neatly of dulled razor blades. You can find photographic evidence of this in some threads on B&B, if you hunt around.

That is really fascinating! Honestly! I had no idea and would never have thunk it. I suppose the space between a couple wall studs could hold a lifetime or two of blades.

My medicine cabinet has one of those, but I'm not using it.

We had foam insulation blown into the walls a few years back and that huge blob in the middle is what came through the blade slot.

I can't seem to find the thread on here where I learned about it but mine is a Barbasol can with a slit in the side. Used blades are a much better filling for that can than the nasty goo it once contained!

Vintage money box from the 60's. These used to be given out free to Australian kids who opened a bank account, and were replaced free when the contents were placed in a savings account
The box is modelled after the old HQ of the Commonwealth Bank in Melbourne, Victoria.
I found this one at a "trash and treasure" open air market for $5, bargained down from $11.

^ i'm sure if you put enough washers on those arms it would stabilize when one or the other is off...or just put about 5 or 6 washers inside the can to weigh down the center.

What is the specific purpose of the bank? Is it just to keep children and animals from harming themselves accidentally? I just toss the blades into the recycling bin...
