I decided today after much hemming and hawing (two years worth) to make the plunge and join the small portion of the population that enjoys waking up every morning and putting a lethal piece of cold sharp steel to their face to wake up. In the form of a straight razor.

I'm ordering a Sight Unseen (straight razor and strop) from Larry at the Whippeddog.com since for all the research i have done i can't make any more assumptions on the pros and cons of any style or functional changes until I have actually had a hand in it. I'm also getting a Van Der Hagen bowl, brush and soap set from Amazon tomorrow. Let me know if I've already made a glaringly obvious mistake.

Figured i'd better join you gentlemen at the Badger and Blade who are like minded in your endeavors to resurrect this seemingly lost art form. And so that i can have support to fall back on if i need it and to offer support, wisdom and advice once i have acquired some. I thoroughly enjoy being a part of your community already.

Welcome Tom. Pretty sure you won't be disappointed, heard many great things about Larry. I haven't busted into shaving with a straight yet but I'm guessing my first straight will come from Larry when I do. Take advantage of the crazy wealth of knowledge here and enjoy!

Welcome! Come by and check out the wealth of info on the straight razor forums. Your set up is perfect. Just take your time, make a few test lathers before your initial shave, and dont expect perfect shaves off the bat. It take a little while

Thank you all for the warm welcome. Thanks Kentos for the extra advice it's always appreciated. KiwiChris, "the old art form" is one of the many reasons that i chose straights.

Welcome to B&B, Tom, and congratulations for joining in on the straight razor experience. Take your time, don't expect a close shave for a while, and it will all fall in to place eventually. Practice, practice, practice.:001_smile
