I was at Marshall's tonight with my wife and I found 3 tubes of Caswell-Massey 1752 Almond cream. They were on clearance for $1 each. They are small though only 1.7oz. Has anyone ever used this cream? Is it any count? I figure WTH if I don't like it I'm sure someone on here does and I can just PIF it.

Get your money back. C-M soaps and creams are so bad they should be paying you to take them.

Worth a shot for $3. Oh well.

Are they like Williams where the people who don't like them just really don't like them or are they generally accepted as unusable products? I can't say that I've seen any good reviews, but I also haven't looked that hard.

I am going to try them because I have them. I'll post here after I do.

It is crap, without a doubt the worst shave product you can find. I would not PIF one to my worst enemy. I have one tub and I am so sorry to hear you have three tubes. You will need to buy some shave soap and some glycogen because Uberlather is the only way you will get that stuff to provide a lather you can use to shave. Or if you use only cream buy some Kiss My Face to mix it with.

I am interested in hearing what you find out. The local "shave shop" is a big seller of this product line. I told them it did not have a good reputation and they should bring in some T&H and ToBS which they sell online but don't stock in their store. I was in today and bought some trumpers violet cream. I showed them 3 packages I picked up from the post office and said if they stocked more I wouldn't have to buy elsewhere. Hopefully it sunk in and I will have a local shop that stocks some better product. They are Jagger and Trumpers resellers and stock those but I have pretty much run through the trumpers line and would not mind buying something else from them

I started out with caswell Massey oil/cream/ aftershave for my DE debut... Thought it was great until I joined b&b a couple weeks later and indulged in the BST. Now it's all deep in the cabinet. Have to say the sandalwood scent is the best I've encountered and the AS balm is actually quite nice. But ya, cream is lousy. For 3 bucks though, worth a spin around the block.

I got a tube of the Almond for $1 and a tub of the DR Hunter Barbershop Creme for $4 at Marshalls. Have no trouble lathering either and got a good shave with both. Are they as good as my AOS and other stuff that costs 10x as much, no... are there better low priced creams you can buy? Probably... but they definately are fine if you like to try different things. Don't pay retail for them though...

I started out with the extremely unlatherable Caswell-Massey almond soap, and it put me off of wet shaving for YEARS before I found this place. I actually remember getting a better lather out of Irish Spring soap, and wondering what I was doing wrong with the CM and how men could shave "in the old days." Maybe it would be a good pre-shave in the shower, but if its anything like the soap, I doubt it will lather enough for a single pass.

I have used both the cream and the soap. The cream is non-lathering but it works well. The soap is very slick and conditions my skin really well. it is a very slow latherer so it puts many people off but it is more than serviceable. Are there better? YES! but they work, it is all a matter of technique.

+1. It takes a lot of work to get them to perform.

I was close to buying a tub of of the Barbershop Creme at a local Marshall's, I may have to go back and see if its there. I did pick up a couple of small tubes of caswell massey for about $3, I couldn't get them to work at all.

If it is a non-lathering cream that may explain why so many here don't think it works. With a non-lathering cream you would simply squeeze some onto your fingertips and spread it onto stubble without using a brush. Most creams we at B&B use are the lathering type where (of course) you place an almond-size dollop of cream in a bowl and lather up with a damp brush before spreading on face. I recall some similar complaints about a Burma-Shave brand cream as well until someone found out it was non-lathering.

They also make nonlathering soaps.
*rim shot*
(No seriously, their soaps blow goat).

Caswell Masochist really is "that bad." However, I found the cream made an adequate pre-shave product but sucked as a shave product and the pre-shave oil lit my face afire. I tossed the oil and used the cream as a pre-shave until it was gone. I will be hard pressed to buy it again unless they make drastic changes.

I can say that about Williams and it's only 59 cents.

Caswell Massey is especially well known for its lather-free soaps and creams. Although others try to imitate it, almost nothing produces less lather than a Caswell-Massey product. It has its place, though. For example, you are driving on a cold rainy night and mood hits you to shave. Well, by whipping out the C-M you can be certain that you won't get lather in your eyes and have an accident. It is truly a marvel among personal care product companies.

Its a shame that their soaps and creams are such bad performers because their scents are among the best.

It'll take a serious reformulation and price drop to convince me to ever buy that stuff again. Smells good, but doesn't lather or do anything else useful.

Their bath soaps are amazing.
I'll leave it at that, cause mama always said if you don't have anything nice to say.....

My wife insisted on knowing what I was laughing about. I read this to her and while she did not laugh, she did agree that this is definitely my kind of humor.

Finally tried the C-M almond that SWMBO bought for me, from Marshall's, and it seemed to work OK for me. I ended up using a little more agua than I'm used to, but it allowed the Gem HFT to do a decent job.
YMMV, I guess.
